That shouldn't be necessary. Parents should have the sense to leave their kids at home with a babysitter or to go to a family friendly restaurant. You can't enjoy your meal at a restaurant when there is a screaming child nearby. Why should people have to pay to hear that? Some parents are just so self absorbed though, and they think everyone has to be subjected to their child's screaming just because they have to listen to it everyday.

Yeah I know parents may not be able to afford a sitter or whatever, but the other day I went out for lunch and these two kids had balloons and were waving them round, bashing them around. Basically they nearly hit my face and the mom did nothing and the kids didn't even bother to move away.
Also, I hate hearing children throwing a strop or screaming. Fine kids throw tantrums which are hard to deal with, but take them outside. Theres nothing more annoying than being interrupted mid conversation by a spoilt child!! And then that continuing for however long it takes the parent to calm them.
Fair enough kids should be allowe din but the parents and children have spoilt it me thinks.

I think that you are on the right track with your idea of ADULTS ONLY sections, but we would all probably still be able to hear them. If you can hear them 50 feet away from you at the mall, then you would be able to hear them at a restaurant. The better idea would be to have ADULTS ONLY restaurants. If that would happen, I would never eat at a restaurant that allowed children again!

I think it sounds like a good idea. The fact that it's necessary drives me crazy. I have a 6 year old that knows how to act in a restaurant and looks at other children when they misbehave. I think parents also need to look at where they are bringing their children and the time of day. Really bringing a child to dinner at 8:00 when you would most likely want to have a quiet dinner is irresponsible on their part. On the other hand if you are in a family friendly restaurant at 6:00 you should kind of expect that.

Even though I have kids of my own, I would dine at a restaurant with an adult only section. When I am out at an upscale restaurant, I go there to relax and enjoy a quiet dinner. I get frustrated when people around me let their kids go crazy and disrupt the people dining near them. I think it is inconsiderate. If I go to a family pizza restaurant or for fast food, I have different expectations because of the family atmosphere.

I think that if parents can't keep their kids in line, they should leave (by their own valition and/or the management telling them).
However, many parents are under the "ooh, my little Johnny is such a sweet angel" impression while the kid runs around screaming like a monkey on acid.
If parents would keep some sort of discipline on their spawn, we wouldn't need an adults only section. Besides, some adults still act like kids in public.

Well, I have to agree with you. We did take our children out to restaurants, at times, (early evenings only) and if they misbehaved, we paid the bill & left. I was embarrassed when my kids misbehaved.
I do like kids but evenings are an adult time especially on the weekends. My parents never took us out to dinner with them on the weekends. It just wasn't the done thing.
If the closet I can have to a quiet adult dinner is an Adult section only then I'm all for it.
For all the parents out there, Get a babysitter and have some fun.

I'm all for it. When I go to a restaurant and see or hear kids, I simply leave and go somewhere else. It should be entirely up to the discretion of the owner of the restarant. Exactly the way it should be for smoking. Owners should decide to have it or not, and patrons can decide which restaurants they will frequent. This IS America, after all, isn't it?? Isn't it???? No, I guess not. Silly me.

I AM SO WITH YOU ON THAT! WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!
I mean it, its my number 1 pet peeve. Parents that won't make their children mind in public, and then expose everyone else to the bad behavior of their children! We go out, to PAY for a meal only to have it interrupted by ill-behaved children with lazy, uncaring disrespectful parents!
And most restaurants already had a smoking section, why not just stick all the people who come with children into that section!! It just makes so much sense!
How do we get this trend started?
