My cousin threw my wife one in Jan and it was fun, yes I got dragged to it :) She had...
-a bunch of playdo and people had to make a baby out of it then me and my wife judged the best looking baby the winner got some cute inexpensive gift, that was funny
-She had 2 poster boards..one with a calendar and people could write their name on it as their guess for the due date..she another one with lbs across the top and oz's along th side and again people could write their name in the column where they thought our boy was going to be
-They blind folded me and my wife and we both had to change a diaper on a doll of course she won..while changing the baby she squirted me with some water and said, "oh the baby just got you"
I hope that helps...have fun!

What is your friend decorating her nursery with? Use that theme for the cake, plates, napkins, etc. I had a baby shower for my cousin a couple months ago. I did a game called "How Big is Mommy?" It sounds awful, but it's fun and cute. You take a ball of yarn, string, whatever and pass it around the room. Each person has to cut off a piece to represent how big around Mommy's belly is. The closest wins a door prize. You can do simple prizes (like candles or lotions for example) for the person who's got the most kids, oldest kids, etc. The main thing is to have fun with it. Good luck!

I took an invitation to a local bakery and had them decorate the cake to match.
Memory Baby Game. I took a tray and put a bunch of baby items on it : 1 diaper, clippers, shampoo, diaper cream, q-tips etc. Basics that a new mom would need. I then had the mom to be walk around the room and show the tray to all the guests then walk out of the room. The guests then had to write down on a piece of paper what the mom to be was wearing. It's really fun cause the guests think they have to memorize what is on the tray and don't look at the mom to be. After the game mom gets all the goodies.

I once played a baby shower game where every person got to pick a length of string that they thought was how big around the mommy was, and it was so much fun! (although, if the mommy-to-be is a little self-conscience then it may not be) also, taking the labels off of baby food and having people guess what flavors they are. Good luck!

Ingredients:
* 95 g dried Apricots
* 75 g ground Almonds
* 250 g Butter, softened
* 250 g Caster Sugar
* 95 g plain Flour
* 4 large Eggs, beaten
* 1 Lemon, juice and zest
* 1 Orange, zest
* Sugar for dusting
* 9 in (23 cm) Springform tin, lined with greaseproof paper
Method:
* Preheat the oven to 180 C/ Gas mark 4.
* Whisk butter and sugar together in a bowl until mixture is white and fluffy.
* Whizz apricots with 1 tsp of flour in a blender until they are finely chopped but not as soft as a puree.
* In a bowl, mix almonds and the rest of the flour and set aside.
* Add the eggs to sugar and butter mixture gradually while beating slowly. Add the lemon and orange zest and a third of almond and flour mixture, start mixing slowly with electric hand whisk.
* Add the second and the third lot of almond mixture slowly, if you do this too quickly, you will end up with a heavy cake.
* Mix in lemon juice and apricot, then transfer the mixture to the tin and bake for 45-50 minutes.
* Run a palette knife around the edge of the tin, turn the cake out onto a piece of greaseproof paper dusted with sugar and leave to cool, then turn the right way up and cut into slices.
* Serve with Vanilla ice creams.
Enjoy.

I threw a baby shower this past weekend. We played a wordsearch that involved the parents names and the babies along with out related words such as car seat, bib, and diapers, etc. We also put clothespins on the mommy to be and made the daddy to be find the pins with his eyes closed. It was a great game and everyone had fun!

Here is a idea for your cake's wording:
"
Although I can't be there today
There's something sweet that I'd like to share,
Thank you for your gifts and wishes
Please help mommy with the dishes.
And enjoy this wonderful cake!
Love from Baby ________ "
And I think this Squidoo lence will help you a lot:

When I had my son, my friends had a cake made with a beautiful pea pod on it. The cake and invitations said "There's a pea in the pod". It was all done in a very elegant script and the pea pod wasn't cartoon-ish. Everyone thought it was really pretty - and more elegant than typical baby shower items...storks, pacifiers, etc.

Hi Jess,
There's a baby shower favors website called Beau-Coup.com. You may have already found them online, they're pretty well known. They have a section that talks about all things baby shower related. The site might be a good reference for your cake topping idea.
