Beer, Wine & Spirits - March 2007

I was out drinking beers with a buddy this weekend. It came up in conversation that I drink almost no beer, all wine. He told me that I should switch to drinking beer only because when he switched to beer he lost 8 pounds. He was telling me that all the sugar in the wine made him gain weight and that by just switching to beer he started losing weight.
Does this make sense to anybody? I'm trying to lose a few pounds and would like to have the occasional drink throughout the week. How do you all feel about my question?

And how much would I mix of everything??!

I've heard they are a great drink...
I'm planning to hit the beaches soon...
And was wondering how to make them...
Considering I like all different types of mixed drinks...

Has anyone tried the regular label (not striped label reserve) 2003 Pinot Noir from Blue Mountain in BC? I wonder if anyone else finds the wine overoaked and dry, lacking in fruit. I'm personally really disappointed considering the efforts it takes to get one's hands on this wine!

*NOTE* -- Don't post some preachy thing about how smoking is bad. I know all of that already.

A co-worker of mine smokes Marlboro Lights. He gives out cigarettes to his co-workers whenever they ask for them. We'd like to pay him back by buying him a pack. But I thought it would be nice to pay him back with a pack of nicer smokes. The problem is that there's no way to know what his tastes are. So for those of you who like Marlboro Lights, what kind of expensive cigarettes would you buy for yourself as a treat? Dunhill Lights is the only idea I have at the moment....

I was wondering if Turbo yeast is any better than just regular Fleishmans bread yeast...I am trying for clear, hi-test stuff...strictly for fuel...drinking it would be illegal, of course.

My beer was bubbling like crazy at 8:30am yesterday. It worked like this for about 24 hours and now the fermenation has ceased. Am I still okay, or is this too soon? i have read that beer can ferment between 2-7 days.

I am going to try to swirl the fermentor to activate some yeast that may have fallen as well as take the final gravity, but any help would be great.

On friday I drank for 3 straight hours and because I had a 10 to 20 min pause between drinks i really didnt get wasted. I also on EVERY occassion I drink tend to just slam any drink I have. ( I dont do this with beer or wine because I dont really enjoy wine and I hate beer) I am happy with or without alcohol buts its just so fun to drink whatcha think?

Well I've never been bar hopping before, in fact I went to my first bar only a couple weeks ago. I got an invitation to go with some people from work in a couple of days.
