I feel that your question is very good and brings a great deal of insight into the American culture. Drinking was done as a replacement for water in most historic cultures, and it has adapted to a social situation. First of all, if you truly want to lose weight, I would quit drinking all together. That's the best way. Alcohol is a complex sugar which the body has more difficulty breaking down. And since sugar is a carb, it is more easily stored as fat. Finally, since most people sleep after drinking, most alcohol is stored as fat because you are not exerting any energy for it to be burned. Wine is essentially fermented grapes, while beer is a brewed mix of hops, barely and so on. They both contain alcohol, which is sugar, which is a carb and is stored as a fat. Basically, you could drink either-or, as long as you drink beers/wines with a lower alcohol content and light beers have fewer calories to burn. Since beers are typically lower in alcohol content, it would make sense why some weight would be lost. Make sure that you drink your beverage with food, and do not go to sleep immediately...clean the kitchen, do laundry...something to make your body process more of the alcohol before you go to sleep. Wonderful question!

Red wine has added benefits for your heart. If you drink moderately (1 or 2 drinks per day max) then neither wine nor beer should significantly change your waistline. There would be a benefit to switching from regular beer to light beer though! A 5oz glass of wine of a 12 oz regular beer both have about 100 calories. A regular beer has about 150 calories. Wine has less carbohydrates, so if you're watching those, it's a better choice than beer.

While neither are "healthy" - red wine in moderation can potentially improve heart health. Both are still alcohol and both while still give you adverse health effects when in excess. Wine can make you gain weight due to a sugar content more prevalent in white wine than red but included in both. Beer can make you gain weight for a number of reasons depending on your body chemistry due to the carbohydrates, hops/barley and sugar that is in beer (and even light beer). In the long run beer would be more likely to be significantly worse for you. If you drink the wine in moderation you should be fine.

i think whichever you like best will be healthy for you! you may drink as much beer as you want. just make sure that you do something physical to lose whatever you took in. Beer is favored by more people because its taste is consistent. Beer is beer plus or minus the bitter taste. Wine is so much like a lady - it has different moods, and temperaments and can be confused as to which type of wine he/she shoud prefer.
I'd say go for beer!

From a strictly health standpoint, alcohol of any kind is not good for you. However, dark red wines contain antioxidants that have been shown to reduce the cells in your body that can lead to cancer.
Even light beer has a lot of calories in it. If you are a heavy drinker, it would be a good idea just to drink less.
You can do a yahoo search for the effects of alcohol on the human body and you would be surprised at awful things it does to your system. From causing your brain to function completely differently from an average person, to the layer of fat that develops around your heart, to the shutting down of your kidneys and liver - alcohol is really REALLY bad for you.
I used to be a raging alcoholic. Learning the effects was very beneficial to me. Now having the occasional glass of wine stays at just a glass instead of 3 or 4 bottles.
Regarding your question - I'd recommend the wine rather than the beer - just less of it.

Wine is better. Beer has as much sugar, if not more. Either way it's all empty calories. At least wine has some medical benefits...

Per glass, wine has fewer calories. Red wine is also better for your heart.
I'd go with the wine if you are concerned, but if you're looking to get drunk, the beer hangover is much easier.

Beer is actually MUCH more fattening and they say a SMALL amount of wine is actually good for you. Of course anything abused is not good for you in anyway. I do not think a few drinks on weekends will make a difference in your weight if you are active.

I would think just the opposite! The beer is high in Carbs as well!
Two glasses of wine a week should be fine. I would not drink everyday. It does add on alot of calories.
