Well I've never been bar hopping before, in fact I went to my first bar only a couple weeks ago. I got an invitation to go with some people from work in a couple of days.

My question is why do people do this? I mean as opposed to just staying at one place.

The excitement of something new - especially good if you're looking to meet women. If you're not having luck at one place, just move on.

In a big city, you want to see everything and not miss out on a great new scene. Plus, if it's a long night, you might go for drinks at one place, dinner at another, and dancing at a third.

I'm in the suburbs now. I prefer staying at one place, where the people, etc. are familiar. The neighborhood bar!

To meet lots and lots of people.. and to have a good time..
it's the variety.. the excitement.. the rush of having lots of drinks..
it's like this.. why taste just one.. when you can sample everything on the table.. that way.. you'll know what tastes good and what not to eat the next time around.. =)

To test the level of their drunken state. Upon leaving the first bar they realize that they are not fully drunk so they continue visiting other bars until they are unable to walk to the door, at this point they know that they are fully drunk.
