Red wine contains a substance called ethanol, it causes , enlargement of the blood vessels ( vasodialation),It's when the vessels close again as the alcohol is wearing off that the hangover headache steps in. it affects body chemicals such as serotonin and histamine which is thought too cause the symptom of headache. Red wine hangover is the WORST ! It's kind of like dying without quite leaving the earthy plane.( Talking through experience).

You have to look at what causes hangovers to answer this question.. The main reason you have that horrible headache and run down feeling in the morning is due to the fact that your body does not have enough fluid to handle your activites from the night before. Alchohol is a natural drain of fluids, that is why it is best to drink alot of water during or prior to going to bed..

I have been wasted many a time, and I make is point to atlease down a couple bottles a water before I pass out.. You might still wake up with a slight headache depending on what you drink.. More sugar in the alcohol (run/wine) the worst the hang over.. But you wont feel your liver cursing your for making it work overtime on a Sunday Morning.

Beer and red wine have all of the byproducts from fermentation left in them, the worst being fusel oils. The point of distilation is to remove these, that is why certain types of moonshine years ago used to be so bad, many of the manufacturers would cheat and only distil once, leaving most of th fusel oils in the product. They give you an awful headache.

Mixing different types of alcohol is not what gives us a hangover.

Red wine has sulfates in it. Sulfates tend to cause headaches/migraines in certain people.

1.) Quantity of alcohol consumed.
2.) Alcohol with sugar mixed in causes an increased loss in fluids. Dehydration is a big cause of headaches.
3.) Alcohol depletes vitamin B1.

uh i don't know, but its bad.

When I was younger and stupid I had a lot of vodka, beer, and wine all in about a 30 minute period. Disgusting. I thought I was going to die. funny in hindsight...

I suppose its due to the fact that the alcohol is fermented from different products.

Beer before wine.... that's fine.
Wine before beer.... Oh dear!

All the same I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Any time you mix the types of alcohol you are drinking, you can expect to have this problem. You can also expect to have this problem if you over indulge on a regular basis.
