Up until recently, I would have said it came down to grape but recently I've been drinking some Savignon Blancs, which previously I believed I didn't like the grape.
My current favourites are Viogner (Cullieron or Charles Black are nice), Riesling (Cono Sur quite nice), Torres Vino de la Esmerelda is good any time, I also enjoy a nice dessert wine (Sauternes, Brown Brothers Muscat and orange flora, Kilkanoon wines are fantastic in general. However in the end it all comes down to personal taste.

Colour comes first, must be white, then flavour. I like liebfraumilch or hock, both pleasant to drink and inexpensive, also like asti spumanti. I'm not a dedicated follower of fashion, nor a wine buff. I know what I like and I'll ignore the turned up noses.

I have a sweet tooth, and like a medium-sweet wine. It's oh so unfashionable to say so - social death - but I like a Liebfraumilch or a Gewurstraminer, both German whites. The French, Aussie & Californian ones that everyone else likes taste sour to me. It's probably true to say, though, that the better quality ones would taste better, but I don't like to pay more than £5 for a bottle of wine, and I can get a good enough German white for that.

A Merlot from Chile. I find this wine full-bodied, really tasting of ripe red fruits. The colour is deep and rich, almost passionate! Yes, I just love a glass of Merlot left to breathe at room temperature... Come to think of it, I get some very good deals at Sainsburys!!!

Any red wine of good blend, because of the sweet syrupy flavor, in each drop. Enjoy rolling, each drop, about the tongue, to derive the maximum benefit of the special flavor. There is a place, Goa, in India, on the coast of the Arabian Sea, and its wines and vine-yards are quite famous & exquisite.

I only buy Spanish wines for purely emotional and partial reasons. Normally my preferred one are Torres, Sangre de Toro and Torres, Viña Sol. It´s the flavour.

Pinot noir. The best ones come from California. its smooth and not too heavy if you get a good one. I like estancia pinot noir, it runs about $20 a bottle. its great to start with if you're new to red wines
