What do the numbers on different types of pasta mean (such as spaghetti is #8, thin spaghetti #9, and et c.), and how did the numbers come about? Thanx in advance for the info!

Do you think it is immoral for vegans to carve jack o lanterns? Since we all know that halloween is the work of the devil anyways, should halloween be banned because of the abuse to pumpkins? Pumpkins are raised and harvested just for this reason. It seems very inhumane!

For me, it was a dish she referred to as a boiled dinner. She'd take cut potatoes, green beans and bacon and cook them up as a soup like meal. I absolutely hate boiled bacon, so it always grossed me out. To this day, I refuse to eat that meal. Her defense is that bacon only cost $1.00 back then.

I'm throwing my husband a surprise 23rd birthday party. I already have the alcohol taken care of but now I'm trying to make sure I have all the food in order. I'm planning on having hot dogs, chips, dip, potato salad, cheese and cracker tray, and baked beans. And of course cake. Do you think this would be good. Any suggestions?

How come, cats can't be vegetarians because they need the nutrients?

Can't they get the same nutrients from soy, and other things like we do?

(I know dogs can be vegetarians)

I guess there really is no real vegan lifestyle. We all use organisms. Does an ameba suffer when we eat it with a bite of seaweed ect? Does the seaweeed suffer? Was a worm 'used' by eatting a carrot that was fed by a nutrient that was the waste product of a worm? When you walk on a sidewalk, was a construction worker 'used' in the making of this sidewalk?

These are not silly questions I'm asking. Just what are the ethics of it all? I'm vegan and I havn't thought of these things before.

Is it a question of evolutionary status? As in, it's ok to eat a carrot but not a dog because dogs are higher on the Darwinian scale.

Is it a question of pain sensation? As in, if the organism can feel pain, it's wrong to make it suffer?

Is it a question of degree of "use"? As in, is it worse to farm an animal than to hunt one because the wild animal at least had it's personal sovergnty for part of it's life?

Is 'being used' a frame of mind and has nothing to do with the 'user'?

Hi..my brother and me and his wife are all mostly vegan and stay FAR away from gelatin.

My sis-in law really wants to do some camping and/or have a bonfire where we can all roast marshmallows, veggie hot dogs, etc etc..

She has an EXCELLENT homemade marshmallow recipie. Tastes wonderful, but she says they don't roast well..she asked if I could find something online for roasting...

Is there a brand of vegan marshmallows I could order online? I found this one, which looks like it might be fine, but I can't tell how big the marshmallows are. We dont want minis, we want nice sized roasters..

here's the ones I found.. anyone tried them? How big are they? http://www.veganstore.com/850.html?gclid=CNGhr7SHkY8CFRcbWAodWE2BeQ

I'd appreciate any help.. thanks..

BTW.. we're not super picky vegans.. We eat honey and occasionally products with a slight milk ingredient, although she prefers no milk products..

All food has some bacteria in it and bacteria are organisms, just as a dog or a cow or a grasshopper are.

So this makes me ponder; what are the lines between vegan and not vegan?

Could it be said that eatting an unfertilized egg from a free range bird is more vegan than eatting fermented beans since fewer organisms (bacteria) die from eatting the egg?

I'm vegan and this question just happened to occur to me and I'm wondering what other people think. I hope I get some serious replies.
