Friends - March 2007

I like my friend, but I'm not sure if he likes me. We get on really well and he'll always come and talk to me when he sees me. He looks at me from across the room, and smiles at me, and sits next to me when he gets the chance. I hear that if his feet point towards me that means he likes me! I've been watching out for it and they invariably do. He knows I like Jane Austen stuff, and recently he's mentioned a couple of articles he's read about her (he was going to email one of them to me). Some of my friends and I were at his house because his housemate had recorded a Jane Austen adaptation for us, and he sat and watched it with us, even though we didn't expect him to stay and he moaned the whole way through. He definitely doesn't like the other girls who were there, I know that. Sometimes when we're with a group of friends I feel like he looks at and talks to me the most, but sometimes he treats me the same as the others (usually when there's a slightly bigger group and he gets shy).

Why do people snicker, find fault, speak bad behind ones back, act so unfriendly or behave in a unpredictable way, when you try to be nice, polite, helpful, not speak bad of others, do good, try and sort others issues, go out of your way to help them, be very good at many things as well and finally being independent, earning very well, having a great paid job, have all the nicest friends, have a great family life and have luck all the way? What is the meaning when people always try to put you down? How does it work?

Honest opinions please. Just a frank discussion out here on this forum.

I am 34 with a wife and 3 kids. I love them very much. I have been married 12 years this week. Here recently I have been feeling the need to develop some relationship with people outside my family and work. I just want some place I can be me outside all the pressures of work and family. I have a good live, no money issues, work issues, or family issues. I just feel like I need a change of some sort in my life. Does anyone else feel like this? I travel a few times a year and it is a good feeling to be out away from all the people who know so much about me. During those times I can interact with people with none of the restraints of who I am in my "real life".

My friend's mom seems to get sick any time her daughter gets some attention. For example, each year on my friend's birthday her mom suddenly has to go the emergency room because she's so "sick". When we had her wedding shower her mother became "sick" seconds after we announced her daughter was on her way to the hall. When the daughter wants to attend family functions for her fiance, again the mother gets sick and forces her daughter to stay home to take care of her. What is going on here? Is there a name for this? Does her mom have mental problems?

I was burgled a few months back. My friend Sue, bless her, just turned up to my home and helped me hoover and clean up. My other friend Diane, when I told her how good Sue had been said, "She sounds like a good friend" and that was it. I just wonder why Diane wouldn't want to also be a good friend?

I spent a weekend with a close friend and her children were just rude and ill mannered. When their mother did not admonish them, I tried to let them know that I was their mother's friend and not their friend, so they needed to treat me like an older person. It didn't help and it got to a point where I had to tell the kids that their behaviour was hurtful at which point they cliamed they were joking. When I was finally leaving, my friend apologized for their behaviour but also added 'You know how kids are'. I want to continue my 15 year old friendship but I simply can't tolerate the kids.

Hi, this is a different person. I'm in the fifth grade and I love to go out and play after school with all my friends from my previous school. There are two second grade girls, sometimes two seventh grade girls, and two fifth grade girls. There are also many many boys...three really like me. But, my favorite one is the tall,dark,and handsome one(literally). Sometimes they bring over other guys to play basketball,too(they take off their shirts). Their all nice guys but I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Since I haven't been back at the school for three years, my best friend back there(boy) doesn't even remember me! I hate it! now this person was told that we would not be here on a weekend tha they wanted to stay this person is a friend of my daugthers and i and the family told her she could not bring this friend to this wedding and we already rsvp only 5 of us will come. not 6 as to say oh we bringing a guess of our own which is rude of us it is only family and my daugther brought up to ask if her friend could come any ways even though i thought she agree her friend will feel uncomfortable. have you ever had this happen to you how to avoid problems could help.
