Can good friends ever be a substitute for family if you haven't got any or is family overrated anyway?

She is a very private person and will never fess up. So you be the judge and jury...

I had a small, casual dinner party (me and my child; her and her child) for her 40th birthday and her child's 16th birthday last summer, at my home which is 1 hour from hers. Everything went well throughout the evening. I couldn't afford gifts (we had NO money for extras, and actually had to count this meal in our normal food budget) but made her favourite foods and a killer torte. I have contacted her on average once a month since last July, either by leaving a phone message or email, and she has never responded! I called her two weeks ago, and she acted as if she had nothing to say to me. She asked me to call back; I did, and she's not answering her phone. I feel like just ditching this gal. I can't imagine what I have done wrong. Do you think it's because I didn't buy them gifts? By the way, in the past I have driven an hour to take them both out to dinner on their birthday. They don't gift us.

Sometimes when I see my ex-girlfriend at the store or come across her at a restaurant it appears that she still has feelings—as if she likes me. She will smile at me, sometimes copy me as what I do, and appears that she is trying to create situations as through she wants us to somehow connect. Maybe she is being friendly? Lately I have seen a change in her e.g. the way she dress, her shoes, her colored and stylish hair. She has a completely different look. How can you tell that your ex-girlfriend actually has feelings for you? Because it’s hard for me to tell as my feelings tend to get in the way. Does she still have feelings for me?

I'm confused about what my friend thinks of me. I've known him properly for about three months, and we generally hang around in a group. Sometimes I get the feeling he likes me. He looks at me and smiles at me a lot. He often sits next to me. If I'm talking to other people he often seems to be listening to what I'm saying, and sometimes joins in with the conversation, commenting on what I've said. He'll remember things I've said to him, or things I've said when he's around from weeks before. He'll always comes over and talk to me when he gets the chance, and sometimes when I'm talking to other people he'll hang around me, as if he wants to talk to me but doesn't have the chance to. He's generally quite shy, and doesn't give much away, so it's hard to tell what he's thinking. What signs should I be looking for? How can I tell whether it's just friendship he wants, or more?

I used to talk to a guy for ages online and we got on really well... and as far as i know the last time we spoke we were getting on fine. He was really my sort of guy and i got the feeling he liked me to but out of the blue he has blocked me from messaging him on myspace. so i have emailed him via personal email (which he gave to me before) saying sorry and hope he can reply but haven't recieved anything back. I'm not sure if he has even recieved them but i normally would walk away cos i have many friends and think its not worth it but i get the feeling ive hurt him and i really like him and don't want to loose him! Any ideas?

i asked a similiar question like this before but didnt get any straight answers.

If a guy always follows you around..even if its a group of guys..and he'd rather be with the girl..than the other guys..if he sits next 2 a girl..and the girl moves..and he moves closer..if he gets up and says" aye dont let anyone else sit next to you!" ..and when people are talking to him half the time he is 2 busy looking at the girl..and if he finds any way of touching her..(nothing dirty..like..hugging..touchin knee..things like that)and other stuff like that...does that mean he has a crush on that girl..or is he just being friendly?

by the way..that "girl" is me.(just incase you werent sure)

I have a co-worker who doesnt like me so much. im not doing anything but i feel he likes teasing me. Ive got a crush on one girl who everybody knows that i like so much. Just recently, he is courting the girl but he already has a girlfriend. I think he's doing that to embarrass me. He looks better than I do.One way or another, he will succeed. Could you help me how to deal with this impossible person? I don't want competing with him but I want to show how strong I am. I work with hime every single day and its really hard to deal with him. Could you give me a reverse psychology techniques? Any psychologists here, he needs help, and i also need one.

My friend is driving me crazy with her constant fibbing. Mainly it's how she keeps agreeing to doing things, then cancels and doesn't follow through. I realise now she has no intention of doing what she says. I've told her I'm not offended if she doesn't want to do something, i'd rather she just told me in the first place. I have a toddler and very little free time and it really annoys me when she cancels all the time. We're supposed to be going away for a short break (a big change for me) and I'm worried i'll make a load of plans for my daughter's babysitting etc and we'll end up cancelling them. Do you know anyone who does this?

My friend is 21.She lives with her 23 year old fiance in a $700 a month apt. She's in college, doesn't work.He just got fired & decided to open his own business hosting roleplaying tournaments. His business plan is completely unrealistic,so they have no income. Her mom pays for EVERYTHING on credit cards even though she can't afford it.Rent,utilities,2 cells w/diff companies, cable, internet, insurance, car. The only thing she doesn't pay for is food b/c they're on foodstamps. She's also paying for their wedding/honeymoon.She's supposed to be in full-time school, but only takes 1-2 classes per semester if she doesn't fail or drop those.Me & my fiance are the same age but completely opposite. We both work full-time & go to college. We pay for everything including school & our wedding/honeymoon.My friend constantly complains that we don't spend any time with her and when we are able to spend time together all she does is complain about money. It's starting to drive a wedge between us.What should I do?

I am a student in a boarding school hundreds of miles away from my family. I miss them a lot and im trying my best to make friends to not miss them as much. But im not exactly the kind of people who likes fist fighting all the time. Im quite skinny, but also trying my best to get strong and buff. Im also underaged, an asian, and some Australians arent too fond of us. What should I do to make more friends, and lead a happier and fulfilling school life?
