I'm doing a research project and need some examples of why people don't change their lifestyles to help combat global warming. (ie., "one person can't make a difference.")

Look at these two surveys older and newer. Note the change recently.

Has the growing scientific evidence finally convinced most people that this is serious?

(I'm tempted to include a funny remark about how successful Live Earth was, but I'll pass it up).

And at the same time has endorsed Nuclear power stations as the cure for Global warming. Is the Au government trying to scare the people into excepting Nuclear power ,because Australians have been so opposed to them? Is this a back door to fool the people into excepting radioactive poison plants . It also seems funny that a friend of The prime minister has started a nuclear power producing company before it has been decided by the people if they are having these plants in the first place. Has the decision to build them already been approved?

When even President Bush has stopped denying the existence of Global warming, and proposed that America do something about it at the latest ASEAN summit, I cannot help but wonder if those who continue to deny...just haven't checked their inboxes lately?

The latest thing seems to be to acknowledge global warming but deny human involvement in it. Was that in last months inbox perhaps?

For cheap labor and almost negligible manufacturing costs, I guess it's logical for many foreigners to run branches of their company in China.

then why don't they all move into tiny little houses that use solar energy, and stop flying around in their private jets? Makes since to practice what you preach, right?

"There are ominous signs that the Earths weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production“ with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth. The drop in food output could begin quite soon, perhaps only 10 years from now."

Global warming right? nope its global cooling

"A survey completed last year by Dr. Murray Mitchell of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reveals a drop of half a degree in average ground temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere between 1945 and 1968."

this is from a Newsweek article called

"The Cooling World" - by Peter Gwynne
April 28, 1975 Newsweek

"Scientists Ask Why World Climate Is Changing; Major Cooling May Be Ahead"
By WALTER SULLIVAN

I'm just wondering about other people's opinions. The way that the situation is going, we may not have a world to live in in a couple hundred years.
If this generation is having problems with it, how can we educate future generations so that they listen to us?
Can we really REVERSE Global Warming, or is it irreversible? Can we save our planet from flooding and possibly killing millions of people?
Will there be such animals as polar bears, penguins, arctic wolves, etc. in the future? What will happen to them if they're still around?
How would we get everyone evacuated from coastal areas in the event the world floods?
Should we make it the law to make America more energy efficient?
I just want to know other people's opinions.

(wheter you believe its from human activities or a natural cycle, the Earth is heating), how many more years do we have until the planet is not inhabitable by human? I asked my Technologies teacher and all he says is, "In your lifetime, not mine."

Earlier I asked a question which refered to an article stating that we're 10 years ahead of schedule in regards to increased atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjY4Q.RQ.wh1LBn_S.aTY34Fxgt.;_ylv=3?qid=20071009122328AATWIrH

In a prior question, I also discussed the finding that arctic sea ice is melting 3 times faster than climate models predicted.

These scientific findings indicate that we have even less time to address climate change than we initially thought, yet global warming skeptics claim we need 10-20 years more research and data to determine if we need to take action. In the meantime, they're helping delay greenhouse gas emissions reductions.

In both my questions, doubters simply dismissed the data. They failed to even consider the possibility that they might be wrong - that we're accelerating global warming faster than expected.

In refusing to consider they might be wrong, are doubters dooming us to failure?

The western, or any other, civilisation never was going to get through GW in one piece.

How does the revised ppm level effect the timescale for GW causing significant problems for western economies? or to put it another way, If someone in a western society wanted to get off the planet or tuck themselves out of the way before the western economies crumble under the weight of global warming, how long would they have?

Back of an envelope calculations only please.

Do you agree with the statement that the key problems that our society needs to address are world-wide poverty, terrorism, and climate change?
It is often said that there are three problems that affect all people. In other words, that make people anxious, worried, and concerned about life. One is the issue of world-wide poverty, the other is security (terrorism), and the third issue is climate change. I am more focused on the third one,, climate changes!
Is there any difference between global warming and greenhouse effect??

According to Tim Flannery, the upcoming version of the IPCC report will contain new data showing that the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has already reached critical levels.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071009/ap_on_sc/climate_change

He said the data showed that the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas concentrations had reached about 455 parts per million by mid-2005, well ahead of scientists' previous calculations.

"We thought we'd be at that threshold within about a decade, that we had that much time," Flannery said. "I mean, that's beyond the limits of projection, beyond the worst-case scenario as we thought of it in 2001," when the last major IPCC report was issued.

If Flannery is correct, this is yet another sign that global warming is exceeding the worst IPCC projections. That's very worrying, to say the least.
