That's one of the harder questions, and reasonable scientists disagree.
The data on that (unlike the data which shows global warming is real) is not certain.
Since warm ocean waters are the "engine" that fuels typhoons, most scientists think global warming will make typhoons stronger (although fewer think they will make them more numerous). But we just don't know yet.

If you want an answer to that question all you have to do is look at the past three hurricane/typhoon seasons.
2005: we had 16 hurricanes and about 14-15 tropical storms. The reasoning is not global warming it is b/c we were in a La Nina period.
2006: we had 5 hurricanes with about 3 tropical storms, this was because we were in an El Nino period
2007: we had 4 hurricanes with about 8-10 tropical storms, this is also b/c of el nino.
Ok so if global warming is the cause for more and stronger hurricanes/typhoons then why didn't we have the same amount of hurricanes in the past two years that we had in 2005. So you cannot link the two together being not enough evidence has been presented. It's all an hypothesis. Global warming is happening it's just a matter of how and everything that's being said as to whether or not it is man made is all hypothesises b/c nobody really knows!!

upsetting the balance of the earth natural state will definately cause some unexpected behaviour on the natural disasters, but not neccesary causing them worse....
We humans are the culprit for all the damages done to earth. Global warming is happening and has happened and is accelerating due the massive greenhouse gases release by our irresposible actions, and by those who chose not to heed and believe...... lets hope the decendents of those experience the worsening effects and not knowing their parents are the actual selfish people who caused it.
compare to the climate history available, there isnt any activities caused by anything that is so destructive as humans.... computer models are just predicting in the best possible manner but not 100% truth/accuracy....
we should base on the history and learn what to do and not to, leading a responsible life, so as to provide a clean environment for future generations to enjoy.
I know the above has little to do with the topic, but i just counld help it when i saw people who has such ignorant and stubborn attitude, denying the facts of science that GLOBAL WARMING is happening, not some tax raising act or blah blah..

Global warming should lead to fewer and weaker storms, because of wind shear. Also hurricanes as all storms do thrive off of the temperature difference between the surface and the upper atmosphere. Human induced global warming is the trapping of heat in the atmosphere, so over time the atmosphere should continue to warm and slow convection, the life blood of all storms.

I tend to generally agree with Bob and Dana on this one, that if it warms I would think that larger hurricanes would be more likely. It is such a complex system with so many variables that it is very difficult to say for certain what it will do.

None. Anthropogenic global warming is only an excuse to raise taxes and the price of fuel.
Here is truth about global warming:
Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling.
The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water.
This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since there has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.
Our planet is currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is
becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history).
As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm).
When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age.
It's been happening for millions of years.
The worrisome and brutal predictions of drastic climate effects are based on computer models, NOT CLIMATE HISTORY.
As you probably know, computer models are not the most reliable of sources, especially when used to 'predict' chaotic systems such as weather.
Global warming/cooling, AKA 'climate change':
Humans did not cause it.
Humans cannot stop it.

All scientist who study this know there isn't any connection between the number or strength of hurricanes.
There are some who THINK there should be a relation between the two and will believe no matter what the scientific evidence proves.

In general global warming increases the sea surface temperature. Higher sea surface temperatures create stronger hurricanes.
So in general, global warming increases the intensity of hurricanes.

Everything is connected with GW so as to cause wide spread panic. If you fell out of bed this morning it was probably caused by GW.
