So because Gore has money he can pollute and use all the energy he wants as long as he pays his "indulgence" fees while the poor must stop polluting and are unable to pay to be able to use energy to live. We must change our way of living while he does not because he "pays" a fee! How idioitic! No matter how much he claims to pay that does not change his hypocrasy and use of energy... what a moron! Give me a break! Anyone who follows his example and logic are hypocritical morons as well

Capitalism has always been driven by profit. Profit is considered above all, even before repercussions. Capitalism creates consumerism, which contributes to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions and thus we get global warming. We may all be consumers of needs and wants, some more than others, but capitalism allows us to freely use, use, and use. Is it possible to keep our economic system, but make changes so that we do not kill our planet?

I'm going to enter a science fair and I want to build either:

(i) A steam powered boat (doesn't have to be huge... best if it can fit into my sink or bathtub so I can test it)

(ii) Solar powered water purifier (this I have no idea how but my science teacher told me it is not very hard)

Please don't tell me to ask my science teacher b/c she says she cannot help me more than that.

Life, itself, is very efficient. Plants make oxygen, animals breathe oxygen and make carbond dioxide for plants. Animals doo doo on the ground and that helps stuff to grow. Plus, there's a whole other slew of crazy systems going on that keeps life on this planet stable.

Why can't humans operate the same way? The life that we have created through machines and computers is highly wasteful. We send out huge amounts of gases into the air and expect them to just disappear. Not to mention, we have landfills upon landfills of garbage that's never going to be used again. We're overpopulated to the extent that we're killing off other species to make room for us.

Are we as a species really that bad at balancing ourselves with nature? I'm not talking hippy mumbojumbo. There are resources necessary to our survival that we will squander if we don't wise up.

There must be a better way to handle life than to ignore the consequences of our actions.
