It's funny that Darth asked this question, because this is something I've had discussions about with friends recently, and it's something I've been wondering about:

Now I'm not necessarily referring to protest songs or something war-related, but what is the *most recent* song that you can think of that brings any social issue to the table and tries to affect change in the environment that's affected?

I was wondering how much credemce You, My fellow R&Pers give to the whole Robert Johnson at the "Crossroads" legend?
I think obviously, even if all urban legend it still has had an incalculably powerful impact on the history and development of rock and roll.
So what are your thoughts about the whole "Crossroads" legend?

The "Lust for Life" song comes to mind...but also... I was watching a UPS commercial...the one with the whiteboard...and the song playing in the background was "Such Great Heights" by....The Postal Service.

You can define selling out however you wish....

I'm going to say Iggy Pop and The Stooges.... Lust for Life was this great angry rebellious song that got put in cruise line commercials to sell $10,000 carribean getaways to rich white people.

Happy Friday! And so I don't get in trouble with Y!, Happy Birthday to Rckets! :)

With all the advertising that we are subjected to during this happy shopping season (*grrr*) I've had the chance to see just how many musicians have products and product lines with their names on them. The number of artists that negotiate these deals seems to get bigger every year...someone, somewhere must be buying this stuff since this trend is growing.

My question is would you, if you were unaware of the quality of the merchandise, purchase a product strictly because your favorite artist's name was on it?

I have been reading different discussions groups about the Moody Blues and how they have touched peoples lives in different ways. One thing I have noticed about people who listen to the Moody Blues is that they tend to be more respectful and caring towards other people. I would like to know what everyone's favorite song and how it touched their lives.

All I know is that there's a bunch of southern rock piano, and at the end of each chorus it goes:
woah-oh, woah-oh, oh oh oh- a couple times. Ive been looking for this song for an hour so any help would be greatly rewarded.

The two main types of moshpits are ones that jump or bounce up and down in unison, and where everyone just goes apesh*t, charging around the place bashing into each other.

There are also circle-pits and the always lethal wall of death.

What are the best pit-inducing songs out there?
