An odd coincidence, but go back and listen to the music of both parties again. You'll notice the devil's music has a real heavy back-beat and almost resembles a hard-rock song, while johnny's music follows a bluegrass format. The belief about this song is that the band didn't like the heavy metal music popular in the day, and thus made it the format of the devil's music so it would purposely lose and promote country and bluegrass over heavy metal.
