I've loved that song since the movie Urban Cowboy, Imagine heavy guitars instead of violin, heavy drums & meaner vocals-what band would do an awesome metal version to that song? (what's your opinion?)

An odd coincidence, but go back and listen to the music of both parties again. You'll notice the devil's music has a real heavy back-beat and almost resembles a hard-rock song, while johnny's music follows a bluegrass format. The belief about this song is that the band didn't like the heavy metal music popular in the day, and thus made it the format of the devil's music so it would purposely lose and promote country and bluegrass over heavy metal. Listen closely and see if you agree...

You could have all kinds of versions:
R&B - the Devil came down to Motown
Garage Band - The Devil came down to Seattle
Rap - The devil came down to Compton

For a hard-core metal version... Henry Rollins Band

Primus plays a pretty cool version of it too. You gotta love Les Claypool for hamming that kind of sh*t up!
