I nominate Janet Jackson saying "I'm heavy like a first day period" . I can't figure out why she couldn't think of anything else to compare heavy with..

I know we have all seen the questions asking who the best singer, guitarist, etc is but what band do you think has the best overall talent (vocals, drums, guirat and bass)? I don't know who the best is but I would have to say that Dream Theater and Dragonforce are pretty freakin good.

i listen to all genres of music and (in my opinion) several bands have changed their style of music completely and everyone hates them now. did you ever like ANY songs from ages ago before these bands were popular?

1.Nickelback-what happened to "leader of men"
2.My Chemical Romance- good group at one time with "helena"
3.Papa Roach-oh how i loved "last resort"
4.Staind-"mudshovel" one of the best at that time
5.Velvet Revolver-from "Slither" to sappy
6.Incubus-from "pardon me" to....see the new stuff is so bad i can't even remember the name
7.The Eagles-weren't they considered rock at one time? via "hotel california"?

if you can name any others please feel free!!

I'll list lyrics to six songs, you tell me the title, the original artist/band and at least one artist/band that covered the song unless the song was never covered at all.

1. "Walk through the valley. The written work is a lie."

2. "You can have everything you want but you better not take it
from me."

3. "As you look through my window. Deep into my room."

4. "History shows again and again. How nature points up the
folly of men."

5. "Then I took out my razor blade. Then I did what God
forbade."

6. "This can't go on, I must inform the law.
Can this still be real or just some crazy dream."

So everybody thinks that metal is just all about screaming, grunting, and death vocals. That all you hear is GRGRGGGROWL. Some may be surprised to know that the best vocals I've ever heard are the ones who happen to be in a metal band. I'm talking about actual singing (disregard the ones who sing in death vocals) that is good. Wether it be clean vocals or operatic sounding ones.
A few examples would be:
ICS Vortex (Dimmu Borgir)-Do I really need to explain? This guy really knows how to use his vocals, and it's just a pleasure having to hear his operatic singing.
Vibeke Stene (ex-Tristania)-Sadly, she left the band to pursue other dreams. One of the best female metal vocals I've ever heard. Lets just say Amy Lee's got nothing on this singing Goddess.
Phil Anselmo (Pantera)-This guy really knew how to sing and not just scream. A best way to hear this is in the song Hollow.
And who can't forget Bruce Dickinson! The rest I'll leave up to you.

I would pick Tracy Chapman's cover of the Doors "Light My Fire." I hate the way she did it so much that I wish somebody would light her on fire.

Maybe it's because I don't have an extra $48,000 laying around and collecting dust, but I can't imagine shelling it out for a lock of John Lennon's hair. Don't get me wrong, John is a rock legend...I just...I don't know.

So thinking about this made me wonder if there was any item from any musician that I would spend nearly $50,000 on if I had it. Can you think of anything from your favorite musicians that you would spend the money on, or would you save your money?

I must be a product of the 90's or something! After listening to all my new hip and trendy music and trying to find the next cool band I put in Blue by 3EB. I felt soooo good after I listened to it. I was pretty amazed that one of my old 3EB albums would be making me rock my dashboard off on my way home from work, but it was! What songs or bands have suprised you when revisiting them?

I ask because I am a composer who creates music specifically for recordings. I don't have much interest in performing it live, nor am I a particularly good performer. I've had stuff I've written performed live by others, but I'd really like to figure out how to make a living of some sort by recording my own work without performing it live. I know it can and has been done, but I really don't know how.

The music I create is intended for private listening, optimally in headphones. It is mostly synth-based, but uses a lot of rock styles. Some examples of it can be heard here: http://www.virb.com/carpentron

Any ideas?

Last Valentine's Day (yes, the day created by Hallmark to simultaneously increase the number of divorces, suicides, and bedroom romps all at once) I created a CD of songs that described the way I felt about my wife. One of those songs just popped up on my iPod, and it occured to me that it was probably the best "dedication song" I'd ever heard. Anyway, that brings me to propose the question, if your significant other or just a potential suitor dedicated a song to you, what would you like it to be?

I’m assuming everyone here has been to Disney World or Disneyland at some point. I give them credit for being able to expand their empire with adult activities. It doesn’t seem like they’ve done quite as much with the rides. Let’s say you were hired by Mickey Inc. to come up with an idea for a ride similar to Pirates of the Caribbean except with a rock motif. What would it be? Here's mine.

Tunnel of Rock of Love – The ultimate hair-metal experience. As you enter, skanky wax figurines of groupies immediately swarm you. All with teased hair so watch out for the Aqua Net. I would also throw in the real life miscreants of the same show, including Bret. They all could use the work. The real cliffhanger would be at the end, where you’d have the showdown of dueling wuss bands White Lion and Winger.

Happy Wednesday! :)

So I've noticed that Fox is ramping up the marketing machine and when I checked the calendar, I saw why...

American Idol starts in nearly a month from now.

We all know what this means both offline (for me, I know that people here in the office will be buzzing non-stop, and TV and radio will be unable to speak of anything else) and online...right here in our R&P home. If it's at all like Rock of Love, I don't know if I'm ready for the onslaught of AI questions and insanity here.

So how does someone prepare for this? Is there a combination of vitamins or any preemptive care that will help? Are there any exercises or training that can be done physically? Should we go out and stock up on bottled water, bread and batteries, and board up the windows?

What will you do to prepare for American Idol?

Though I'm sure it changes in waves, which group of fans here do you think use the board more?

My gut reaction is the rock fans. I see few straight-up pop music questions being asked.

I guess most of them are on the general music board.
