Last Valentine's Day (yes, the day created by Hallmark to simultaneously increase the number of divorces, suicides, and bedroom romps all at once) I created a CD of songs that described the way I felt about my wife. One of those songs just popped up on my iPod, and it occured to me that it was probably the best "dedication song" I'd ever heard. Anyway, that brings me to propose the question, if your significant other or just a potential suitor dedicated a song to you, what would you like it to be?

caitlyn - It was "If I Can't Have Your Love"... a Richie Sambora track that was on the Bon Jovi box set that came out a few years ago.

SJG - I know the lyrics, but it's still about a strung out junkie.

SJG - I discount nothing. Who's to say that I'm not a reformed addict? I just sincerely find it odd that anyone would want someone to sing to them "So your daddy works in porno now that mama's not around".... so beautiful and uplifiting.

EDIT: "Everyone needs love
You know that it's true
Someday you'll find someone
That'll fall in love with you
But oh the time it takes
When you're all alone
Someday you'll find someone
That you can call your own
But till then ya better..."

EDIT...You discount the masses of rockers when you denounce a former junkie..."Mainline this", you oh so sheltered and privileged man.

EDIT: It's a song of hope..."someday..."...and it happens to match my existence...I spent numerous school years high as a kite...as a junior the diesel mechanics teacher and his friend took me to lunch and gave me lines, my entire senior year I worked at Kroger's, had Speech and Debate practice, and stayed up quite often on meth, and then I spent numerous after school years "blowing hard"...I'm sure I'm not alone...take it however you take it. Rock On.

Probably Stevie Wonder's Signed Sealed Delivered I'm Yours since it's our song and we've got the history with it, but to go a little more out of the box with it...
the Beatles - Here Comes the Sun
That song just makes me feel good and has a real sweetness to it. (I hope there is no hidden meaning like it's really about George doing a bunch of heroin and killing a hooker, but it was so cathartic that "here comes the sun")

Somehow I always felt your description applied more to Sweetest Day than the long established V Day. Even more shocking remains the fact Hallmark doesn't have a third manufactured love holiday for the summer months.

Sisters of Mercy - Temple of Love

By virtue of having "love" in its title, it becomes a love song that doesn't suck. Plus, it's pretty "hawt" (sorry in advance for sounding like Paris).

Something that shows they pay attention like
Terror-"Overcome"
Pantera-"Strength Beyond Strength"
Shadows Fall-"Inspiration On Demand"
