Happy Friday! And so I don't get in trouble with Y!, Happy Birthday to Rckets! :)

With all the advertising that we are subjected to during this happy shopping season (*grrr*) I've had the chance to see just how many musicians have products and product lines with their names on them. The number of artists that negotiate these deals seems to get bigger every year...someone, somewhere must be buying this stuff since this trend is growing.

My question is would you, if you were unaware of the quality of the merchandise, purchase a product strictly because your favorite artist's name was on it?

Happy Friday Sookie and thanks for the birthday wishes. Everyone else too, that's very nice and I appreciate it.

As soon as I can find my Nine Inch Nails lunchbox, it's mine.

They still rock, among with other things. :)

Happy Friday Sookie :)
And a very ~*~ Happy Birthday ~*~ Rckets :)

The only things I buy with an artists name on are their CDs!
Now, if it were concert merchandise then maybe, as it would be a memento of the show.
But stuff in general... why waste my money?

I actually feel that a lot of artists cheapen themselves by putting their names to products they probably don't even use.
I respect a band more for not doing it.

Anyway, thinking about it, I don't think any of my favourite bands premote products!
But if Blackmore's Night ever put their name to a 'gypsy' style dressing-gown, I just might part with my money!

Ditto on the salutations to Rckets.

Apparently, this small group of individuals who call themselves the Kiss Army are the ones most responsible for this annoying and agravating trend.

Funny, if Mr. Simmons put half as much effort into his bass playing and song writing, Kiss may be viewed in a very different light by the public.

That being said, I draw the line at the recorded works and the occasional t-shirt, although I do still have a poster of Kiss on my wall in the home office.

Yes. I did it when Mike Ness released Cheating At Solitaire, and when Tim Armstrong released A Poet's Life. I would do it again in a heartbeat, those are both quality albums.

As far as actual products, I always buy shirts and belt buckles from bands without wearing them first. So even though that's a simple assessment, I have to say yes.

Hey.... Happy er... Saturday morning (it's 2AM) and happy late Birthday to Rckets

I don't really buy a lot of band merchandise but I have been guilty of buying way overpriced pins for my book bag just because it said Pink Floyd on it. And to sidetrack off just merchandise, I buy any music that has the name Steven Wilson mentioned.

Happy Birthday, Rckets!! ((HUG))

And Happy Friday, Sookie!

The easy answer to this question is no. I wouldn't buy something SOLEY because it had Dave Matthews' name on it. I love them and all, but that's just silly.

Now, if it was something I *WANTED* or something I *NEEDED,* and had a choice between two different products, I may give preference to the one with the band's name on it.

Come on, now. Ben & Jerry's One Sweet Whirled is REALLY good ice cream. Given the choice between that and plain ol' vanilla, the One Sweet Whirled totally wins. :)

Edit: And I once got binked for using Happy Friday, too! What's up with that? :)

Morning Sookie!

And a BIG happy birthday wish to Rckets!!!

If one of my favorite artists had, say, a scent, or a line of linens, lol, the answer would be no. Because by that time, they would have probably milked their fame to such an extent, that I'd no longer be interested in being a fan. Funny how that works, but it's true.

Hey, happy birthday Rckts. And Happy Friday everybody.

Depends on the product. If there was Pavement cologne I think I would pass, don't really use the stuff, but if there was a Pavement...say...blender or microwave and I happened to need one I would certainly give it a look. Actually, that would be pretty awesome.

Morining Sookie!

at this point.......I'd buy a Hilary Duff snowblower........I figure it'd be good since she sucks so hard,......

I'm more about the music all the way.........damn Elvis, The Beatles and NKOTB for perpetuating this trend. I don't know how many crappy gifts I've gotten that were cheaply made artist 'memorabilia'
