Not exactly blown away but,

Wilco opened for the Jayhawks - Wilco debut album we had no idea they would turn out so good.

Elliot Smith opening for Grandaddy - I love Granddady but Elliot Smith is the song master.

In 1984 the Black Crowes opened for Robert Plant, it hurts me to say this but they blew him out of the arena.

People might laugh at this, but it's true...

I saw Britny Fox/Lita Ford/Poison in Johnson City, TN, in 1988. Britny Fox was just starting out, and they absolutely BLASTED Lita Ford and Poison out of the arena that night.

I attended the HORDE tour in 1995, where the Black Crowes headlined. Blues Traveler were the next to last act, and they were *untouchable* that night. One of the best live bands I have ever seen. And this is coming from a diehard, lifetime Black Crowes fan.

I also saw Prince a few years ago, and his surprise guest opener was Morris Day and the Time. They blew the damn roof off the place, and the ONLY act that could have followed them was Prince.

I saw Ted Nugent open for Aerosmith and Ted put the live Gonzo on everybody before Steven Tyler had a chance to Walk This Way and everybody had to Dream On hoping the Free For All would come Back in the Saddle on the Great White Buffalo.

Several times. I've even been to shows where the majority of the audience went for the opening act, and left before the headliner.
I remember watching Tiger Army open for Social Distortion, and Tiger Army stole the show. Not that Social D wasn't good (they are every time I see them), but in this case they weren't the best.

The next year Billy Preston opened for George Harrison and put on an awesome performance!

I believe it was the OZFEST in 2005. Iron Maiden was the band just before Black Sabbath and they totally ROCKED!! Sabbath came on and they did the same old set. It was good, but nowhere as good as Iron Maiden. Black Sabbath did not even do an encore. And to top it all off I am a huge Sabbath Fan.

hey deke, i remember britny fox, kix and ratt in 88, and britny fox did come out swinging! also saw the horde tour in 95, and was dissapointed in the black crowes live, but i digress. you brought back some memories! i saw tesla open for def leppard in 87 and again opening for poison in 89. i'm a def lep fan so i'll just say that after opening the 89 show for poison we stuck around for two or three poison songs before we left. kind of a tesla fan in the day....
