I want my son to get some self-guided, web-based practice in middle school math. It doesn't have to be free! I just want something other than a generic practice site, something that actually reteaches (or teaches) skills systematically.

Hi. I am a teacher and my husband and I are trying to sell our store "Teacher's Paradise & Party Supplies." We have too much own our plate right now with two children and both working full time jobs. Great investment. All inventory/shelves/computer/fax/copier/racks will be sold. We rent the building so the inventory can be shipped to wherever. We live in Hazlehurst, Ga. Any ideas on how else to sell all this inventory?

Why is our society so quick to place blame on teachers in schools when standardized tests scores are low while rarely holding the students or parents accountable?

I'm teaching English to adults. Every time I ask a question it's she who answers first.I think this way the others won't have opportunity to think and then answer the Qes.On the other hand , if I stop her ,I'm afraid of offending her.Shoud I stop her from taking the initiative all the times??

I have these kids that come to work for me at the club.
They have never washed a dish, don't know how to sweep the floor, can't microwave their own lunch...

How do these kids grow up?
How do their parents expect them to be able to function as adults?

I was taught that if a kid didn't know how to stich on a button and cook even the simplest of things (toast, scrambled egg...) then their parents didn't do their job. After all, these are basic survival skills that everyone has to do at least once in their lives no matter if they live in the woods or NYC!
[unless, of course, they have enough money to pay someone else to do it (and, even then, what about the maid's day off?)]

These used to be every day, basic survival skills a parent taught their kids. And, if not the parents, the school.

What happened to basic survival skills?
And how do we get them back?
