Beep beep beep’ Lucy’s alarm went off. She sat up and the beeping stopped. The movement sensors were working again. She stretched and yawned feeling, if possible, more tired than the night before. She was lucky she thought to herself. At least she didn’t have to go to school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays like the children from the past. They had learnt about that in history.
The house was silent, as she was the only one home. Her dad was at work and she didn’t have any brothers or sisters since Toby Lair had decided 20 years ago that because of the booming population families could only have one child. As she pressed the button to open the curtains, she prepared herself for what damage the acidic, poisonous rain had done to her garden. As the curtains slid to the side, she gasped. There were no flowers. No birds singing outside. There was only about 3 trees on the whole road. Unfortunately this was completely normal. She never saw flowers, birds or huge lush green foliage. Only dry soil
