Its not that they do not like them, its that their job is to make you a better writer and unless you see what you need to improve on, you will not be able to improve. Writing is a process that includes lots of editing and rewriting.

They just want to help the student see what could be better, so s/he can write a better, more complete paper the next time. They are there to teach, and this is a more individual opportunity.

Because the teachers have gone to college and their students are still in high school.
English was one of my better subjects. I did quite well on essays, if I do say so myself!

Because there's always something to find. They're not here to make you feel all warm and fuzzy, they're here to teach you, and you can't learn if no one corrects your mistakes.
