How do you say code switching in Chinese?
How about other languages?

Linguists in many country seem just to use the English term 'code swiching'.
There are translations or claques in some languages but do people really use them?
I've asked many people at the language college where I work in Taiwan how this is said in Chinese and they say 'mm, wait a minute, uhmm...' but no one has come up a term. They all do it, all the time--switching back and forth between Mandarin and Taiwanese or vice versa yet they don't even have a commonly used term for it.
The translations Anne C offered might or might not really be used in those countries but I would think not.

I don't know about "code switching" in Chinese, but here are some other translations...
Dutch = code omschakeling
French = codez la commutation
German = kodieren Sie Schaltung
Italian = codifichi la commutazione
Portuguese = codifique o switching
Spanish = cifre la conmutación

In Chinese, CODE could be translated as "bian ma", and then SWITCHING could be translated as "geng hwan" ...... but I think that would only be used in the field of computer work.
In terms of speaking languages in daily conversation, older Taiwanese people often switch from Taiwanese, to Japanese, to Mandarin, etc. all mixed together. There is no special terminology for this. I guess to them it is all one language, and one way of expressing themselves.
