I am just really curious as to why no one is looking up their homework questions on the internet rather than asking someone who might be wrong? For health questions, why not go to webmd.com? For questions about history, why not type into a search engine, a main name or time period?

What are the next two names in this sequence?

George, Thomas, Abe, Alexander
I thought since "George", "Thomas", and "Abe" were part of the sequence it would have something to do with the presidents, but I don't think that there was a president by the name of Alexander. Was there? Could someone please tell me the next 2 names in the sequence so that I could help my daughter out tonight? Thanks

I got a math problem that looks like this.

Find the point P in the first quadrant on the curve y=x^3 such that the slope of the line passing through P and (1,1) is 3.

I used substitution and the definition of slope to solve it. My answer is (-2,-8) and the computer says it's incorrect. Anyone know the correct answer and how to get there, so I can find my mistake.

Thanks so much

"Mrs. Sweeny is 7 times as old as her daughter. Eight years from now, she will be three times her daughter's age. How old are they now?"

I got D=7S, D+8=3(S+8), but I don't get the answer listed in the back of my summer review packet.

And a bonus question: How do I solve this problem using the quadratic forumla X^2/2-X/2=1. I don't ever remember doing the quadratic equation with fractions.

Thanks in advance.

Amazing to read posts like: When was such and such famous historical figure born, or who invented ... Amazing. All one needs is the understanding that the dictionary and encyclopedia are in alphebetical order. Before we can post an answer, the questioner can have answer in hand. Don't own an encyclopedia? use one available on the net, or get one on disk.

Problem
A rectangular garden is 6 meters longer than the width . if the area is to be 135 m2 , find the length and width .

Solution given :

X = width
X = 6=length

A= L x W

Solve : X2 +6x=135
X2 + 6X+9=135 +9
(x + 3) 2=144
X+3 = + or- 144 squared
X +3= + or - 12
X = 9 or X = -15

Where does the 9 in step 6come from ?
