I am just really curious as to why no one is looking up their homework questions on the internet rather than asking someone who might be wrong? For health questions, why not go to webmd.com? For questions about history, why not type into a search engine, a main name or time period?

People are lazy, and prefer the answers to come to them rather than spending time looking.

While many who answer questions have no idea what they are talking about, I know that many who browse the questions are also tutors or teachers; I am a tutor in my spare, time, for example, and know for certain that I am not the only one.

Reliable answers do come, although they often aren't the most obvious.

that's a good question. yes i observed that people these days don't want to search things themselves but they want ready made answers.
though yahoo Q/A are good for questions one really don't know. but its not good to misuse it. i saw some students ask very simple homework given to them.
