If the user is allowed to enter the amount of objects to be created, how do I write the code?

For example:
String[] array = new String[10]; // say the 10 is user input

Is there a way to change that 10 into a variable where the user enters a value in the console? I'm new in java so please write as simple as possible.

Thanks for any advise...

I have not taken math in a while and the innerds are a litte...Rusty... I know this problem is not that difficult, but I cannot seem to figure it out.

Any help please. I need to find an average rate of change.

If someone could post step by step that would be extremely helpful.

f(2)-f(0)/2-0.....(Need to apply f(x) to this problem.)
