This is a form of child abuse. The adult (typically a parent or caregiver) causes injuries to a child, then seeks medical care for it. The presentation is typically very dramatic. Repeated injuries are not unusual, and deaths have been reported.
The motivation seems to be for the parent to present as a "caring", watchful caregiver.

munchausens is a disease where one is obsessed with medical care and will actually make themselves sick to receive treatment.

M. by proxy is when one who has munchausens makes a loved one sick so that they must receive treatement. Cases have involved mothers doing this to their children.

It is a mental disorder where the parent or parents of a child feign of the sympotoms of a disease or injury as a means to get attention for themselves

It's when you pretend to have an illness in order to get attention or pretend that your child is sick to get attention. It actually goes further than pretending though.
