hi im 16 grade 11 live in ontario canada and have been in public school all my life but am now considering homeschooling. I just dont feel public school is so GREAT as everyone sais infact i think that far from the truth. I feel school isnt a place to learn its a place to go and hang out with friends even in the classroom when the teachers read from a textbook and make u write notes all the time and give worksheets its so boring that no one pays attention and talks to there friends. and drugs are infinaty EVERYONE does some kinda drug even the preppy kids (sorry for sterotyping just giveing a better picture) not jus the party kids. I just sit an laugh at how out of control everyone is. If someone is stuck the whole class has to wait and if no one pays attention that means the class is always behind and the teacher jus repeats herself so i fell im not learning anything. i just want to know if anyone was in a similair sit. as me and has had success with homeshooling or likes it better .

Her child has been really acting up, she's in 3rd grade. she just switched schools, they lost their home... many things. Her mom is really great, i've known her very well for a few years. our children play together. the child has understandably been acting out. apparently she did something REALLY bad and her mom, who has never spanked, got a belt and hit her 3 times on the butt. the daughter made a smart remark about it not hurting, so the mom got a wooden spoon and hit her again. the next day at school the teacher heard the daughter say something, checked and there was a bruise.

what course of action should the mom take. she is devasted. they didn't take the child. what happens next? i think the mom said she does have to go to court. what can she do to rectify this situation.

I have a degree in chemistry and years of chemistry lab teaching experience. I know how difficult it is to teach a chem lab. How is it possible for home schoolers to perform this without cheating their students (children)?

I saw a story on 60 minutes last night about the Millennials entering the workforce, these are the children born between 1980-95. (If you have not seen the story, go to cbsnews.com, click on 60 mintues and watch the video)
Nutshell: millennials enter the workforce are spoiled brats, needing tons of accolades to do the simplest of things. They blame their baby boomer parents. I additionally blame the boomer bosses.
BUT, what, if any, effect do you think education has on this situation. Do you think homeschooling contributes to the situation or minimizes it? Do you feel homeschool students are used to working harder? Do you think public school students are used to being rewarded for just showing up as the article pointed out?
Or do you think the reverse is true?
And last but not least, do you really think it is Mr. Rogers fault???

Havn't they heard of 4-H, swim classes, other classes, sports, church, also home schoolers in an area will get together for field trips or to do arts or other activities or do certain subjects at certain people's homes. I'm not happy with people telling me NOT to homeschool because everything I've read on it sounds great and homeschoolers have an opportunity to get a better education. Our children would not be hidden from the world like they make it sound! I went to public school myself and loved it in elementary school but then middle school and highschool was pretty scarey with all of the gossip, drugs and lack of one on one teaching and bomb threats. If our children ask to go to public school when they are older we will not keep them from doing what they want if it's the best thing for them since we only want the BEST possible for them!

She is taking me, my little sister, and my older brother out of our high school and homeschooling us. She did it when we were in 2nd-3rd grade. She hates how our high school is run, but she's keeping my little brother in 1st grade, which I don't think is fair. She also has a teacher's degree and was a ninth grade teacher up until I was seven.
I kinda don't want it to happen, I'll miss my friends, my popularity, my column.
What are your points on this?

..even have a GED let alone a high school diploma? My sister wants to home school her kids..but she never even graduated from high school. I'm wondering if that is OK? I would think that she wouldn't be able to considering the circumstances. She lives in Massachusettes. Any thoughts?

I need some unschooling success stories. My mom is convinced that if I unschool I'll end up at a *gasp* community college. (I'm not going to college. Maybe art school, though...) Anyone wanna prove her wrong?

Where and with what school do you work with? do you traditionally homeschool without an outside entity? What makes what you do good? and what is the downside of it? I homeschool my 9 year old through virtual academy, and it is an awesome school and curriculum, we love it! wanted to see who else out there does too!

I started home school for the first time ever. I'm in year/grade 9. I'm a computer addict, I spend almost all my time on it, even if I just sit here bored. I've become totally anti-social, I've done no school work except for my exams this year. I can't find a motive to get me motivated. Even the fear of repeating the entire grade/year. I'm in Australia, so school starts at the end of January and finishes in early December. I have done a few things, but I didn't put any effort into it and got 2% on my maths work once... I'm letting my parents down. Dad was away for 6 months and I kept lying to mum that I was doing my school work. I even got these inactivity letters which I check in the mail every time I can and chuck the letter out.

I really need a motive or something to change this extremely awful habbit I've grown into. I've tried asking mum if I can go back to normal school, because their, I will have friends and teachers to force me to do my work. I get angry easily, am I mental?
