I like the idea of homeschooling and teaching my kids Christian values , but after reading a few books on homeschooling and researching about curriculums I am really overwhelmed ; I don't know where to begin . There are so many curriculums and most are more than what we can afford. Also , I don't have any exp. as a teacher . Although I know my state's standards , I am not sure what to teach first and how to send the paperwork to the school district , I don't know how to test my child and I am even worried we can't afford to pay teachers to test 3 kids when they will all be school age . My oldest will be in Kindergarten next year and I have 2 other kids under 3 , it seems like a lot of work with homeschooling and getting all the things done around the house , not to mention I work from home over the phone as a medical interpreter (only about 60 min /day) .
Any advice about how to start and what curriculum to purchase would be appreciated .

Ok, guys, I really need help here. My son will be in kindergarten next year. I am thinking of home schooling. He recently started a church pre-school 3 hours/3 days per wk. He really loves it and I must say it has really helped him. He has always been very shy are scared of any new situation. I understand alot of this will come as he gets older and more mature. (I also know kindergarten in public school will not be like this church pre-school 6 hours per wk!) I cannot find anything in my area as far as groups/co-ops. Everything is at least an hour away. (from what I can find anyway) I see how much pre-school has helped him and how much more confident he is. How can I continue to feed his curiosity for school and other kids, and get the social interaction while home schooling him? I really want to home school!

im thinking about home schooling but want to see what is available in my area as far as groups/co-ops and things like that for my kids to be around other kids as I feel this is very important. They do not like sports, so thats out. How do I find out this info? This or any info would be helpful, I know nothing about homeschooling! =)

Is it just as good/better? Do you have the same chances to get into colleges?

One is easy to deal with acedemically while the other does not listen just plays around. nothing seems to get his attention, so i figure why not send him to school. Do you think I am being unfair to him? Or is it that I know my child and I know what is best for them. Desperatly need feedback on this.

My husband supports the *idea* of homeschooling, but expects me to do ALL the curriculum choosing and teaching (aside from any co-ops or one-day classes). How can I get him to WANT to take some of the responsibility without "begging" him to help out? I realize he works very hard to support this lifestyle and needs time off, but, hey, so do I. And besides, our boys need time with their dad, don't they?

So, Im in high school now and everything I do will effect me getting in to a college. I'm home schooled on the computer, I am also ADHD and find it hard to concentrate on school work. I give 100 percent into my school work [studying, reading the material], yet I still get OK grades. I don't want C's, I want B's and A's. To get into the college I want to go to, I must keep a 3.0 or above to get in. I went in the school to get help a few times, but they just throw me a calculator, and say problem solved. My mom can't help because she doesn't know half of what I ask. How can I get better grades when I'm already trying my best?? Thanks

A few questions about homeschooling.
Is it a good choice for some kids?
Does a person have to be certified or take some kind of test to home school their child?
And can anybody give me any opinion or can give me any information about homeschooling?
Thanks

What types of things do your 14 - 15 year olds do to get out into the world without you? Apart from homeschool theatre and homeschool history classes and getting together with friends at 'park day,' my son's counselor has been giving us the feedback that our son needs to get out of the house more and get involved in developing independence and his own life. (Interestingly, my mom has been saying this, too.)

Do your kids do internships, jobs, volunteer work? Do you drop them off in the city and let them tour on their own? Have they joined non-homeschool groups that cater to their interests?

The counselor wants our son to get on the subway in the morning, go in to the city, and see what he can find. This seems very strange indeed to me. I think there has to be some structure, some point (except outings for fun with friends) and so I'm not interested in dropping him off at the subway and saying , "See you in 8 hours." It doesn't seem appropriate for 14. What would be?

Are 5 year olds supposed to know patterns and read chapter books? My 5 year old knows basic patterns, but my family is telling me that she is behind because she hasn't known them "long enough" or something, and because she can't read whole books yet. She's known her alphabet, numbers, shapes (including trapezoid, octagon, pentagon), colors etc since she was 3 years old, but she's just recently starting to learn phonics, and she's gotten some down pat so far. I don't think she's BEHIND! She's not a genius, but I think she's on the right track.

I think my family is trying to scare me because I insist on homeschooling, and they want me to enroll her in public school. So they're trying to tell me that she's behind and needs help, in order to lure me in. I've talked to other moms with kids her age that say my daughter's fine, and so does my mom...who's a public school teacher. But I'm here for more opinions.

So my parents have decided to move us yet once again. today was my first day of my new school and i absolutely hated it. im a sophmore in highschool and really wouldve liked to finish at my other school. I should i go about telling my parents i would like to be home schooled. i know i should give my new school more of a chance but the people just seem stuck up and wont even talk to me. i really dont wanna go through another year of trying to make new friends with people like this. i think it would be better for my education too. there are to many distractions on this school and so many people (its a regional highschool) i honestly think d be better off homeschooled.
