In the U.S. a homeschool diploma (issued by the parents or educational program in which you participated) is valid in all 50 states.
GED is always an option, but it can also hinder you in some areas.. you are better off with a homeschool diploma over the GED if you are entering the military, so beware of your options.

Depends on where they live and what they want to do.
Where I live, many get provincial diplomas, I have yet to meet one who's done the GED, some don't even get diplomas (but still go to college), I know others who aren't doing the diploma thing, but I'm not really sure what their plans are for after their 12th year.
I suppose parents could supply some sort of a homeschool diploma, but they wouldn't be recognized by anybody here, except another homeschooler. Only the provincial diplomas are seen as 'valid'.

Excerpted from URL: http://www.hslda.org/highschool/diploma.asp
A high school diploma is a document that bears record of the completion of a course of study. If you're wondering whether your homeschooled student can receive a diploma, the answer is yes!
As the parent, you've prescribed your child's course of study and you can present a diploma that indicates he has successfully completed it. Some correspondence schools also provide diplomas for completion of their course of study.

you get a diploma because you have to take the same tests to graduate as the kids going to school within your school district.
only people who drop out and go back later or quit early get a GED if they pass the tests (which i hear are much harder than just going to school and getting a diploma)

I work at a school that has home schooling students. They come in to the school to take their tests and if they get all the credits they are required to get at a regular school, they get a diploma from the school they would have attended if they had gone to classes on campus.

GED mean you didn't pass highschool. ANY good program will give you deploma. In my program, you actualy need to do a prodjuect to graduate or take a test.
But if you actualy want to, tyou could get a GED.
