Definitely homeschooling is ok :D
There is a lot of prejudice out there toward homeschoolers. It's not nice, but it's part of life. If someone really gets to know you, they will see that you are who you are and your educational background is just one part of that.

It is definitely OK to be homeschooled!
It is also OK to be a nerd or "something!" Think Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, John Lassitter (Pixar genius), George Lucas, John Williams, Steven Spielberg... All nerds.
The important thing is to be yourself. And, even though it is tough sometimes, don't worry so much about what other people think. If someone is a friend and a mature person they are going to accept you for who you are and they are going to love those things that make you different from the crowd.
Plus, your uniqueness, (see the above folks) is your ticket to success and happiness. Go with it and you are fortunate to be homeschooled and have the personal freedom to be yourself and pursue those things that ignite your passion.
I think in a public high school setting "nerd or something" often translates into: Someone who is smart, works hard, is conciencious and respectful, has passionate interests (in whatever). Cool means being disrespectful, following the crowd, "fitting in" and so on.
Think of some other famous historical nerds... Can you imagine a young Ben Franklin in today's public high school setting! Talk about a nerd!

Yes, it is. I think that parents should have the right to raise their kids the way they want to if they don't like what's going on in the school system.
Please take it as a privilege. In some countries, homeschooling is not allowed, and some families who have tried to keep their kids out of horrible school systems, have faced sanctions from the government...up to and including taking the kids away so the kids can experience the horrible education. Great!
I wouldn't tell anyone that I was home schooled until I started to attend college. While many people may fault you for being home schooled, when you go to college and associate with 'normal' people...obviously, you're not at home anymore.
Please try not to succumb to what people think. It's hard, but everyone thinks that they know what is the best for another person's life.

OK? It is great!
Oh, Honey! People will judge you no matter what you do. The question is, is homeschooling working for you? If you are doing good in academics and you're feeling a little nerdy, go do something that isn't book related. Go hike, go shopping with your mom or your girlfriends. Join a cycling club. Volunteer to usher for the local community theater, or for the local spouse abuse center. Be a Big Sister. Learn guitar. Throw a party. Hang out at the coffee shop and talk about music and art.
When you are well rounded, educated and interesting, people can call you whatever they want. You'll know the truth and the truth is, you rock!

As far as being OK academically, it really depends on the curriculm you use and how dedicated you are, but in most cases, it is better than public schooling. As far as what others think of it, well...I'm homeschooled and when I tell ppl that they either say "Oh..." and change the subject, or they say "I wish I was homeschooled then I wouldn't have to do any work". But who cares what they think, as long as YOU know you're getting a good education. And if they get to know you, and see that you aren't a nerd, then your being homeschooled will be completely irrelevent to your friendship.

It's fine to be homeschooled, even if there are plenty of people out there who seem to think there's something wrong with it. They just don't understand it and should be looked at as though they were children who don't have enough information and don't understand. You have to understand that most schooled high school kids are very focused on being and doing what is considered cool or what others are doing. The idea of purposefully being different just doesn't fit with that and they see different as "bad", which it isn't. It's really rather sad as it means they often can't even accept their own differences.

I';m a homeschooled highschooler. And, people don't think that I'm a nerd! Infact, a lot of adolecent teens that star in movies for disney and other companys are homeschooled. I love homeschool, and i don't care if people think i'm a nerd or not, its a lot more fun for me!!!
Best Wishes,

I've been home schooled for all of high school and most everybody thought that I would be dumb. Well, I've been accepted into graduate school to get my PhD. in Wildlife Biology. And I absolutely love home schooling. I watch the news everyday, and it see all kinds of horrible things happening in the schools and I'm just glad that I don't have to experience any of that.

There is nothing wrong with homeschooling. My boys are doing just fine. They are involved with their youth group extensively. People don't understand teaching kids at home which is why they say such negative things about it. Before anybody opens their mouth, they should give homeschooling a try.

I was home schooled, and I can tell you no one I've talked to has thought anything about it at all.
When I would tell other kids I was home schooled the conversation would go somewhat like this:
Kid: So, where do you go to school?
Me: I'm home schooled.
Kid: Oh. So... do you really get to sleep in every day?
Me: Not really. I get up about seven or eight.
Kid: Thats not fair! *fake whine*
Me: Ya, its great!
Then will start talking about how much better it is to home school.
Really, no one cares whats you do to school because everyone hates school anyway. =)
