We are enrolling our (almost) 3 year-old son in a very traditional Montessori preschool for the upcoming fall. We feel very confident that this will be the right environment for him. Our only concern is that we've heard that the Montessori method stifles/discourages imaginative and/or fantasy play. Our son has a very vivid imagination, which we feel is one of his strengths. Montessori experts out there, how would you respond to this criticism? Is it just another misconception about the Montessori method, or is there some validity to it?

I am married to a wonderful woman, have 1 beautiful boy, and have a job that i'm not 100% happy exceeding in a career in so i'm choosing to go to school for 2 years to become an Ultrasound Technician and possibly start a career path. I'm afraid that not only will this be a financial strain on my family but also i'll lose much valuable time that i'm currently able to spend with my family. Does anyone have any advice on how to make things easier for me and my family, or just general tips? Thanks.

Since English is the accepted language for tennis rules and scoring, who decided that a ball would be called IN even if it is without (not IN) the area marked off by the boundary lines?
The lines determine the area within which a ball should land to be considered valid. Any ball that has even a fraction of its surface on the area outside the lines should be called OUT.
However, somebody has decided to do the exact opposite! Even if no portion of the ball touches the "in" area it will still be called "IN" as long as it touches a boundary line.
I object because this is a flagrant abuse. The meanings of words should be respected. "in" is a preposition with a distinct meaning and tennis rules don't respect the meaning of "in"!

I've noticed that in the following sentence " The dormitory was completely silent, and, had he been less preoccupied, Harry have realised that the absence of Neville's usual snores meant that he was not the only one lying awake". There is an inversion of verb and subject in the second line of this paragraph and I've been always taught to tell the verb after the subject if I don't want make a question. So I don't understand because It's said "...; had he been less preoccupied...". I'd be very grateful to you if you could explain to me the why.
By the way maybe I have just made some mistakes. English is not my mother tongue. However I hope that you could help me.
Thank you very much.

Hi there.
I am Japanese, have been studying English for about 4 years.
My problem there is can not aquire its pronunciation and accent.

As to English grammar, writing and reading, there are some rules so that I can imagine that I would get it some day myself.
I have been listening lots of CDs and news for over 2 years, but I can not find out any rules for accent and any dirrerence between ex:R and L, wondering if I could speak an understandable English one day.

Could anyone advise or tell me if it is a matter of great importance to make people understand?

Yesterday I went to the Guidance Counsellor at my high school and changed my Math course to Academic, because I have intentions to go to University. Now I would like to change my French to applied but my dad is saying that I am taking the way out. My dad took everything hard in high school, and he expects me to do so to. But I don't want to. I am really excited for high school but I feel pressured to do what he wants. It's my education and he just doesn't understand. My mother is fine with whatever I want to take. I'm going to grade 9 next year and I don't need the extra stress.

I'm planning on changing my French to applied anyways, but how can I explain to my dad that he is putting pressure on me and that I want him to stop nagging me about my high school courses? He is always encouraging me to go to University, but I don't even know what I want to do yet.
