Education & Reference - 3 January 2007

i can't decide whether i should go slightly down-state for college, or stay here and live at home and go. i like both schools, but if i lived at home i could have free meals and laundry and stuff, but i want the experience and freedom of being away from home...what do you think? also if i got homesick, the down-state school is only like an hour and a half away.

From Social Worker to Teacher - how to do it?

I have a masters degree and over 20 years experience in adult psychiatry. I'm "semi-retired", working as a personal care aide for two special needs children in middle school, and being a full-time mom. My "baby" is in middle school and will be graduating in six years. What do I do if I decide I want to teach, to become a "professional" again? Where do I start? What tests do I take? I live in PA. Who do I call?

Has anyone gotten caught using a different address to enable themselves (or kids) to go to a different school?

I am 16, and i would like to go to the high school i used to go to. i used to live in the district, and now i live literally two blocks from my old school district. Does anyone know of the consequences of using someone else's address to go to a different school, or a legal alternative, (or a better idea) to get into that district?

Which Calc should I get TI-86 or TI-89 platinum?

I registered for a college math course. They require a TI-85 or equivelant, which isn't even made by TI anymore. So I started searching and I don't think there's a huge difference in price between the TI-86 and TI-89 platinum. Here's is a description of the course:
Emphasizes simplifying expressions, solving equations, and graphing functions, including linear, quadric, polynomial, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic. Problem solving and mathematical modeling are integrated throughout. Appropriate technology to include a graphing calculator.

I know the TI-86 would do what I need, but would the TI-89 platinum do everything I need or is it made to do other things?

I know it's an ignorant question, but in America we don't use this term.

I heard it in reference to "shrinking crisp packets in the oven" ( http://www.al4ie.com/?p=72 and some Y!A questions).

Do you mean the metallic bags that potato chips come in? The foil wrapper that encloses stacks of crackers inside the box, such as the foil that encases Ritz crackers and Pop Tarts? Do you mean glossy cardboard cereal boxes?

Post Bacc, Masters, or Certification program?

I'd like to become a secondary school teacher, and have been looking into the methods of becoming one. My degree is in English with a writing focus, and I have taught English as a Second Language for the past couple of years.
I'm apprehensive of going through a teacher certification program, because I don't think it would fully prepare me to become a teacher.
I've looked into Post Bacc programs and one of them requires that I pass the Praxis II before even starting the program. Is that common with a lot of Post Bacc programs? It seems kind of backwards to me.
I'd like to get a Masters in Education some day, but I wouldn't want to jump into the deep end right off the bat. Argh I'm so confused. Anyone have any advice?
