3. Publisher/Publication date: The publisher is Harper Collins and it was published in 1998.
4. Number of pages: The book is 324 pages.
5. First line: '' Once on a dark winter's day, when the yellow fog hung so thick and heavy in the streets of London that the lamps were lighted and the shop windows blazed with gas as they do at night, an odd-looking little girl sat in a cab with her father and was driven rather slowly through the big thoroughfares " (1).
6. Plot: The story is about a girl named Sara Crewe who has to attend a London boarding school because her father, Ralph Crewe, had to go to India because he became an owner of a diamond mine. At the school Sara has a reputation for being the rich, polite, intelligent girl and she was treated as if she was a real princess. But then one day she finds out that her father died and he left no fortune behind. So Sara has to work for a living by running errands and helping other students with there lessons. But little did Sara know that Mr. Carrisford who moved next to the seminary was a friend of her fathers and he was looking for her to inform her that she does not have to live her life as a pauper.
7. Main Characters: The main characters in the story are:
Sara Crewe: She is the daughter of Ralph Crewe and she is left in poverty when her father dies.
Ralph Crewe: Is Sara’s father and he has to leave her because he became the owner of a diamond mine.
Mr. Carrisford: Is Ralph Crewe’s best friend who looks for Sara to inform her that she does not have to live her life as a servant. He also becomes the new guardian of Sara.
Emily: is Sara's doll. Sara treats her as a friend and companion, and likes to imagine she is alive.
Becky: is the child scullery maid at the school. Becky becomes friends with Sara while she is still wealthy and continues to support her after she becomes a servant.
Ermengarde St. John: is Sara's best friend at school. Ermengarde is good-natured and loyal, and sneaks away to visit Sara when she becomes a servant.
8. Setting: The story takes place in London.
9. Mood: “ My papa is dead ! My papa is dead ! ” (107).
10. Philosophy: “ If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it ” (178).
11. Point of View: The story is told from the 3rd person point of view. Sara is telling the story.
12. Climax/Literary High Point: “ What was your father’s name ? the Indian gentlemen said. Tell me. His name was Ralph Crewe Sara answer, feeling startled. Captain Crewe. He died in India ” (293).
13. Reference to Major Cities of the World: “ The climate of India was very bad for children, and as soon as possible they were sent away from it generally to England and to school ” (4).

15. Theme/Moral: The theme of the story is that you don’t need to be affluent to be a princess. Just use your imagination and don’t let anything bring you down.
16. Last Line: “ And, somehow, Sara felt as if she understood her, though she said so little, and only stood still and looked and looked after her as she went out of the shop with the Indian gentlemen, and they got into the carriage and drove away ’’(324).
17. Significance of Title: The significance of the title is that you don’t have to be a affluent person in order to be a princess. Just use your imagination and don’t let anything get in your way. Because sometimes in life we have to deal with situations that we don’t want to be in but that doesn’t mean that you have to make your life miserable to.
18. My Review: I liked this book because it tells you that you don’t have to be rich in order for you to be a princess. It also tells how all little girls can be princesses regardless of race, appearance, or being a snob. Just let you imagination run wild and don’t let the littlest things stop you from anything that you are trying to achieve. I think that this book would be appropriate for any age because this book teaches you that you don’t need to have money to do everything. I would love to read another book by this author because she writes story which you can learn from.
