I've got two ideas for you, that both focus on regional differences in the United States.

The first is accents. A New York accent is different than a Texas accent, which is different to California and different still to a Chicago /Minnesota northern accent. These differences exist even though we are speaking English. Some folks say "pop" some say "soda". The East coast drops "r"s, as in "Haahvaahd", and in California, words are drug out as in "Oooh my Good!"

I think you could have fun with that topic.

Another one, along the same lines, is cooking. Hot dogs are a national dish that everyone does differently. In Chicago, ketchup isn't used--a true Chicago dog has no ketchup. In New York they are sold on the side of the street. Down south they are on the grill or chopped up in gumbos...you could do something with that.
