Put quite simply - if that's possible - Communications studies is the study of the media, radio, tv etc. Communication without the "s" on the end is the study of how and why we communicate with each other in various settings. It also will involve a study of such things as the mass media, public speaking, oral interpretation and even branches out into computers. The field of communication is related in many ways to Psychology and depending upon the school you choose and the area you wish to specialize in, you might be required to take a course in Statistics for statistical analysis of a research project you may have to conduct. Obviously, it all depends upon the school and their program.
