Education & Reference - 4 October 2006

She is great at all subjects but reading. A great speller but she hates to read. We've tried reading together, she gets bored and tries to stare off in space or finds a reason to get up. Now when it comes to my 7 year old she can read all day long. The 10 year old sees this but doesn't try. How can I encourage her more. I ask her to ask God for help. I know I have. What do you think?

Recently I wrote a paper, which was to my current knowledge, supposed to be succinct. I wrote the paper a tad poetically with an extended metaphor, etc. and I used "big" words even though I didn't really consider it a big deal until I thought of it on retrospect. Now I think the teacher does not like me, for the paper was 9 pages, as opposed to the typical 3-4 pages, and I feel he may have thought I was trying to pretentious or specious and I am starting to worry he won't like me anymore..

My son wants to go to MIT for robotic engineering. He is currently a sophmore in HS with A's and B's in all of his honors course work. He has not joined any school clubs and has not played sports since little league. He plays the electric guitar for pleasure and is engrossed in playing Magic - The gathering card games. He has worked for the past three years on a very part time basis each summer. Otherwise, he isn't involved in anything else. I think he needs to either join an organization or volunteer in some way. He believes that what he does is enough right now.

If I were given one million dollars to give to a charity or a stranger, I would definitely give it to a charity. If I gave the money just to a random stranger, how would I know if this person wasn’t going to go out and get drunk and buy drugs? By giving the money to a charity, I know the money would be going to a good cause. I would choose a charity that was aimed at finding a cause for AIDS and different types of cancer, in hopes that one day the cures would be found. I would also donate money to a charity aimed at helping people in Africa, especially in the Darfur region who are less fortunate and do not have the means to make enough to even have the essentials for survival. I feel that giving money to a charity would go a lot farther than just donating money to one person.

there is a new chemistry teacher at school and he is really mean. he has called multiple students stupid and makes rude comment twords them. for example i was sick yesterday and when i asked him if i had missed anything he replied yes you missed seven periods of school. he then told me that he wouldnt let me make up the work and that next time i should think before i miss school. he also mumbles when he talkes and he does not explain anything. when i was trying to help a student today he said i wasent paying attention. when i told him i was he asked me a question. when i tryed to answer he yell wrong. then he pushed the button on the overhead and the answer and question was there so we had not even learned that yet. how was i suppose to know the answer. its like he just wants us to all fail. i dont know what to do. many parents and students have complained and nothing has happened. is there some kind of petition i can get people to sign or somthing to get him out of the school? thanks
