Software - March 2007

Hi, my Mum has windows Me - I bought herXP to update her system so that she can then install a printer she bought. I installed xp last night but when the PC boots up Me is still there too. On the Xp screen there are no icons/broadband etc. If during start up I go down with the arrow and select the Me then all her files/broadband are as before.

I tried to install her bt broadband onto her xp but it only got so far then said could not detect a connection -phoned BT and spent an hour on phone with woman who told me in the end that my XP system has no network connection -is this because the broadband is still activated in Me? Reluctant to lose it here incase I end up with no net connection.

Foolishly I thought new operating system would mean that Me would delete itself and all files/broadband -everything else would merge seamlessly into the one system - help please

Everytime I try and close it (right-click, close from system tray), a message window pops up that says "There are other applications currently using features provided by Windows Messenger. These applications may include Outlook, Outlook Express, MSN Explorer, and IE." Since I have none of those programs running, I don't know why I cannot close Windows Messenger. This was never a problem before and as far as I can tell, I haven't installed any new programs recently.

OK......I am just about to smash my new computer with a sledge hammer.

I am on ebay and I need to QUICKLY edit 800+ pictures a day.

All I need is to crop and adjust brightness quickly

I bought Adobe Photoshop and it is WAY to slow

I have also tried several others and I have yet to find one that lets me scroll through and edit quickly

Remember, I have Windows Vista and many programs are not compatable with Vista

PLEASE HELP, I am loosing hundreds of dollars every day that I can edit my pictures!!

I am using Nero WaveEditor.. I need to know what is the perfect settings or balance among the four options:

(1) Vocal Pan - Ranging from -95% to +95%
(2) Gain Compensation - Ranging from 0% to 100%

Vocal Frequency Band:
(3) Lower Frequency - Ranging from 0 Hz to 1000 Hz
(4) Upper Frequency - Ranging from 3000 Hz to 20000 Hz

A friend typed up an essay for me and sent it to me by e-mail as an OTD file. In other words the file reads: essay.odt
I have tried opening it in Word but it comes up with strange characters. It gives me the option of several languages and each one that I click on gives me similar strange characters. How can I read the essay?

When i copy the content of the CD from CD ROM i am getting cyclic redundancy check error .After this the copying process is stopped.But i want to proceed copying even if there is such error.
Is there any setting to do that?

I managed to get spywared and phished. When I tried to remove the malicious files and folders, my system froze, and would not allow me to reboot, my administrater password was disabled therfore I could'nt log in (very clever! best I've seen personally). I fdisked the drive, and reinstalled xp. My disk is scratched and some of the ini and dll files (i believe were not loaded) some of the symptoms include, but not limited to are: unable to install a game controller, unable to install audio device and mixer, attempting to open device mgr sends me to a web site which reads action cancelled. Any suggestions on how to repair this problem other than purchasing a new copy of os?
