Everytime I try and close it (right-click, close from system tray), a message window pops up that says "There are other applications currently using features provided by Windows Messenger. These applications may include Outlook, Outlook Express, MSN Explorer, and IE." Since I have none of those programs running, I don't know why I cannot close Windows Messenger. This was never a problem before and as far as I can tell, I haven't installed any new programs recently.

Thanks for the help.

That happened to me last week, and I solved it by uninstalling and installing it again.

I am not a complete brainiac to this, but if this just started to happen with you, you could try to do a system restore on your computer a day before this started to happen. Go to your start menu, then "All Programs", find "Accessories", then "System Tools", and click on System Restore. Restore your computer to an earlier time (the day before this started) and see if that brings everything back to the way it was.
