i'm not sure about if WinXP can only be installed once or at one computer only (or is there a difference there)?will microsoft think i've installed my WinXP in more than one computer?

I think you have the license to install windows on one computer. (When you register windows with microsoft your computer is identified by the MAC address of the network card attached to your computer)
in principle you have the right to install , reinstall, and re-reinstall a million times on the same computer

No, things like this happen all the time.

Re-install XP and activate it. If it's been more than 6 months, you should be OK. But, sometimes when you try to "activate" XP again, due to hardware changes, you may be asked to call Microsoft.

Call them and explain what happened and they will give you a special code to make everything legal.

if you are reinstalling xp on the computer it was originally on , you are not in violation
