My Compaq desktop computer with Windows XP and a 3700+ AMD Processor has 2 DVD drives. One is labeled Lightscribe DVD +/- Writer, and the other says DVD-ROM. Can I copy a DVD disk with Construction Plans already on it to a DVD + R disk, or do I need a DVD +/- RW disk ?
The Construction Plans Disk has about 100 pages of drawings on it that are labeled as 2 sets of Plans.
About how long should it take to 'copy' the Plans on to the blank disk.
Is there any special technique required ?
Are there ways to speed the process if it takes a long time?
Can I do any work on the computer while the transfer goes on in the backgound or do I dedicate the entire computer to the transfer ?
Thanks in advance for the help, Jim.

I have a thift store Dell Dimension XP Home Edition that worked excellent for six months but for some reason now is asking for a password during the boot up. This is before it gets to the windows stage. I asked about the previous owner at the thrift store but they have no idea who donated the computer so I have no way of asking the previous owner.

i want to convert files from .mov to format suitable to burn on cd for vcd player. i'm using Super (a free decoder that can convert almost anything). i'm thinking to convert them into .dat extension but it's not in the Super's output list (which is kind of weird!). What format is suitable. I'm making video for my parents who knows nothing about computers and tech stuff, so that they can simply put the cd in and press play.
Should i burn the files in normal cd (cd+r,cd-r,etc..) or something else for vcd player?
what's the best (and simple..for beginners) video editing program that accepts all video format? i tried using Windows Movie Maker but it only accepts windows format,so i have to first convert the .mov into .mpg and then other format for vcd. This seems kind of difficult..

I am currently updating our website and I cannot upload it to yahoo photos simply because the pictures are in bitmap images. How can I change it to JPEG format? Is it also possible to change all my bitmap images simultaneously into JPEG format (since I have more than 300++ photos scanned BUT did not notice that all these were saved as bitmap)? It would be very laborous if I woulddo it one by one. I am running a Windows XP program. I also need (as much as possible) a step by step procedure. I can spare time doing it via webcam chat though. Thanks for your answers.

When I start the computer, there are 2 different personal settings, which I set up for my wife and I. My wife doesn't care about it, neither do I, can I just delete the whole thing, so it will just go to my desktop? Might now I haveto click on my personal settings, THEN it goes to my desktop, my wife never uses hers, waste of disc space. I liked my "crappy" Windows ME better than this!

Hey there,
If you have any advice I'd really appreciate it. I was using the CD/DVD drive on my laptop recently to upload some of my old scratchy CDs, and it has now started playing all of my CDs and DVDs slightly too slowly (both sound and image). Any ideas on how I can fix this myself, as I can't afford repairs right now.
Cheers!

I don't agree with default "My ..." subfolders: My Music, My Pictures, My Videos, .... They should be consolidated and grouped by subject instead of type. I used to think of these words but:
[i] multimedia/media, audiovisual/AV; feel that they are still generic and/or ambiguous.
[ii] album, gallery: almost OK but they doesn't look representing scan-images such as screenshots or passport photocopy (or do they?).

Our Program, who art in Memory,
'Hello' be thy name.
Thy Operating System come,
Thy commands be done,
On the Printer
As they are on the Screen.
Give us this day our daily data,
And forgive us our I/O errors
As we forgive those whose
logic circuits are faulty.
And lead us not into frustration,
But deliver us from power surges.
For thine is the algorithm, the
applicaton and the implementation
Looping for ever and ever.
