I don't agree with default "My ..." subfolders: My Music, My Pictures, My Videos, .... They should be consolidated and grouped by subject instead of type. I used to think of these words but:
[i] multimedia/media, audiovisual/AV; feel that they are still generic and/or ambiguous.
[ii] album, gallery: almost OK but they doesn't look representing scan-images such as screenshots or passport photocopy (or do they?).

Isn't "media" too generic? I perceive that media in IT means any material keeping data (e.g., harddisc, CD) rather than its origin: TV, radio, newspapers.
Yes, what I mean keeping altogether is master folder so that subfolders are created for specific topic, event, etc.

Mmmm, perhaps I'd rather split them to 2 master folders.
One for selective collections like albums.
Another one for quick & miscellaneous gathering:- scan images, snapshots, voice recorders. Some of them may be picked out to first master folder later.

Whenever I can't think of a name for a folder, I just name it "stuff"

:)

Anyways.. I dunno, media I guess is good. I personally wouldn't store my photoes, videos, music all in one folder, but that is just my own personal preference. Unless they all were of the same thing. In that case, I would just name the folder describing what the photos, videos, music was about.

Umm, I'm not sure I follow. Names like "My Music", "My Pictures", etc, are ways to break up media files by type, which is the only information you've given us in your question.

For example, Sports might be a good "subject" listing for some of your photos and videos, but how can I recommend good subjects for you when I don't know the genres or contents of what you have?

I like the idea of separating mutlimedia files into a master folder called "Media", "Downloads", or "Personal". Then sort them by type in subfolders.

If youre smart, you will create a folder called my files! Sub folders of everything from your music to pics, file creations from applications you use, etc! This makes it so much easier to save or backup the files you really want to keep! I finally faced the fact the organization is the big key! My systems have never been more organized and I have quadruple redundancy of files I dont want to lose! Name it whatewver you want but put absolutely EVERYTHING in it that you want to keep and properly name subfolders. Folders in folders in folders in folders if need be!

Call the master folder "Media", then put subfolders inside called "Music", "Pictures", "Videos", etc.

You can name your folders anything that you want. My two hard drives are named Cheri and Aunt Elsie. Those names make it easy to remember that Cheri is the internal C drive and Aunt Elsie is the external E drive.
