Set your EXT HD to slave setting then format it to NTFS, it's that easy.

Follow the manufacturer's instruction to physically connect the drive to your computer system. Then follow the instructions to enable WinXP to recognize the drive. Once that happens, you can reformat the drive to NTFS by opening Windows Explorer, clicking the Format option and selecting the NTFS file format. I'm not absolutely sure but I believe that once you convert from FAT32 to NTFS, you can't go back. At least, not without either reformatting the drive or reinstalling WinXP.

The advantages of NTFS include better security as well as more efficient file storage.

Connect your drive to the computer.

It may appear quite happily in "My Computer" after all the fixed drives, simply right-click and choose format and then select appropriate options.

If it does not appear there, do the following:

Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel

Click on "Administrative tools" (you may have to switch to classic view to see it immediately).

Click on "Computer management" nd look down the left hand side of the window that appears and click on "Disk Management"

Your external drive will appear in the list in the right hand pane after all the fixed drives - simply right-click it and choose "format" and follow the instructions choosing the appropriate settings.
