My computer is being very slow at the moment - everything I try to do happens in short, jumpy bursts - it's driving me mad. Any suggestions?

Hy Friends ^^
This is my 2nd question :O
My Computer is a AMD Ahtlon XP 2000+ 1.66GHz 512Ram...
ok, maybe this question sounds funny, and i dont want to stay behind that, but: A Friend of me have a Intel Pention 4 2.6GHz 512 RAM (andandand) but i think this one is worse then mine. The computer of him is slow, and dont have enough power to run better games. My computer on the other hand is not so strong, but can play all new games.(?) Like Call of Duty 2 and dont lag or something. Is a intel Chip worse than a AMD?
Ok, i know this question sounds silly and that english isnt the best, but give my best to show you my problem o.o
(PS: ok, the graphic card also must be the same...)
