Other - Computers - August 2006

No matter what I do all that happens when I move my mouse is highlighting (like I am holding down the shift key and page down). My keyboard does not respond to anything. I can not click on anything. All I can do is Ctrl-Alt-Del and end Excel and then restart my machine. It is like a key is stuck but none are. Does anybody know what causes this and/or what I can do to reset it without shutting down?

Mouse and keyboard power is lost and the montior is still.Only solution is the resart button. Any solutions for me.

I need to find a business but i dont know the name of it.
I only know what type of business it is.
I also know the owners name
So does anyone know where i can go to look up someones name and find there business..????
I have already tried to google there name and it hasnt came up with anything to help me..

I'm teaching my self computers. I need to reinstall windows and I don't have the System Restore CD that came with my computer. The sound card, display, ethernet, etc, are all built in the motherboard and I'm afraid that once I reintall Windows it may ask me for those drivers. Where can I find my existing drivers so I can make a backup and have it ready in case I need them? Please be specific! Thanks.

I have a Windows XP Home edition, service pack 2, and I've downloaded Skype. I have earphones with a mic attached. The problem is my mic...I have it plugged in to the correct receptor (the "pink" one) I have all the "microphone" sections checked properly in the audio controls. What happens is that sometimes I do get sound (when I Skype test my audio), it seems to fade in and out, and sometimes all I hear is a barely audible clicking sound. Any ideas of the problem I have? I have called someone before and it worked great. Now it just isn't. I haven't really changed anything...I don't think...same earphone & mic, same configurations and same computer..any ideas on this?

im typing under new documents-when i tab into a new window for ex a calender it automatically types in bold and underline-how do i turn that off-i know you can click on it but i mean at all times-dont ask me to ask microsoft word help desk b/c that sucks

Hey my laptop is acting funny. I turned it on today and it just goes straight to a Boot Menu. I tried turning off the computer, ESC key all that stuff and it keeps going back to that menu. Is my laptop totally screwed? Did I just lose everything that was on my drive? Is there a way to fix it so it doesnt go to that menu when I turn on the laptop? This has happened once before but I turned off my laptop and turned it on again and worked fine. Now it always goes to the menu. PLEASE HELP!!

I just got this computer about a month ago and the screensaver keeps freezing up. The screen will go blank and when I move the mouse around my desktop picture will be there but the start bar on the bottom and the icons will be gone. I press ctrl alt del and then it will be ok. this is my first computer so i dont even know where to start.

My computer is having problem when i used disk defragmenter. I defragment the C drive. When it reached to 14% complete, a window popup saying that some files can't be defrag. I dont know what to do.So, I tried the Help & Support Center for some info but it didnt help I also tried the help option too, but it didn't help either. My computer is Compaq and OS is Windows XP Home Edition. So can anyone help me with this problem?

Last night, I dont know if I was dreaming, but I was awaken by my home PC shutting down, I know this becuase I heard the windows song -that tells you it is shutting down. I got so freaked out, so I got a butcher knife (in case someone was there - my dh works nights), and went to the room where the PC is at. There was noone or nothing and the computer looked like it was off, I leave the PC on and turn off the monitor each night, but when I checked I never checked the CPU to see if it was off, in the morning I went and pressed the CPU button and the computer shut down, so it never turned off at night. Well after checking every coner of the house along with the butcher knife, I went back to bed. Could I have been dreaming or could the computer shut down and turn on by itself?
