I have a Windows XP Home edition, service pack 2, and I've downloaded Skype. I have earphones with a mic attached. The problem is my mic...I have it plugged in to the correct receptor (the "pink" one) I have all the "microphone" sections checked properly in the audio controls. What happens is that sometimes I do get sound (when I Skype test my audio), it seems to fade in and out, and sometimes all I hear is a barely audible clicking sound. Any ideas of the problem I have? I have called someone before and it worked great. Now it just isn't. I haven't really changed anything...I don't think...same earphone & mic, same configurations and same computer..any ideas on this?

In Skype, turn off the "Let Skype adjust my sound device settings" option.

Skype adjusts the volume based on surrounding noise... the problem is that when it lowers it, sometimes it doesn't raise it back up... making it tough for people to hear you.
