Prices seem to vary between providers, but who do they actually buy the domain name from?

And if the prices they charge are just for their services in procuring the name, is it possible to apply for a domain name yourself without incurring these costs?

I noticed when making a Word document that included telephone numbers starting with 0 (zero) that that numeral wouldn't insert on the document. To overcome the problem I had to use the capital letter "O" . Why is that? Have I set something up incorrectly.

hi i would be gratefull for any help i would like to no if anyone no's if you can trace someone who has hacked into your computer. my PC has 40GB HD & 56 MB RAM.in last few days my computer has become very slow.there is sometimes a notice at the bottom of screen that your virtual memory is very low.windows is increasing its size.some of the application may be denied during this time.how long am i going to suffer?is there anything i can do?

I have just downloaded IE7 and the following has happend
1 the print preview facilty has dissappeared
2 cannot enlarge downloaded images temporary
3 where has the internet options facilities gone to
4favourites has moved again
5my Mcafee internet advisor has dissappeared
why cant thing be left as they are....

I can open my blogger account and edit the content. The only problem I have is that I cannot view my account. I want to see the effects of my updates but after several attempts to open my account, the webpage can't be uploaded. I've received a note that my account is viewable from outside china. Is this again another government regulation? please tell me how can I view my blog. Thanks.

i configured as best i can. Out of 4 downloads, 2 have green faces and 2 have yellow faces. from what i read, the green faces are what you need. Now, one of my downloads have over 100 connections (Peers and Seeds) and yet in pulling only 50k and 60k. the other thing that bugs me is when my friend downloads, he pulls over 100k, i get the exact torrent he used and only pull anywhere between 50k and 70k. i may hit 100k+ once or twice for about 10 sec through the entire download. what could i do to get faster downloads.

just to put it out there i go through a Linksys wireless router with the wep on. i have no firewall and i have roadrunner braodband internet.

Can any1 help with following problem , when i turn my pc on im getting lots of little black lines and writing all rols into 1 then sometimes screen ends up looking like a huge barcode have to turn pc off and start again it sometimes works but not always, so obviously have a serious error somewhere,just i cant find it , thanx for any help on this .

My parents refuse to get into the 21st Century. Mostly I think they are just intimidated by the vastness of the internet, the horror stories of what is seen or said on the internet, and fear of having to learn to use a computer. So, I thought I would get them the most simpe base-line computer I can find. I'm sure I've heard about 'Email only accounts' but don't know where they are. Maybe if they were able to send and receive email I could ease them into higher technology later. Is there anything like what I'm looking for? Instant messaging would be great too, but not necessary.

Can anyone provide me with a site which sells good quality products like amino acids,coq10,vitamins (like B!,B2,B3,folic acid,etc).
