Why when using word does the character "0" not show on the document?

I noticed when making a Word document that included telephone numbers starting with 0 (zero) that that numeral wouldn't insert on the document. To overcome the problem I had to use the capital letter "O" . Why is that? Have I set something up incorrectly.

Check the Num Lock key is on.

are you sure the problem is with ms word?
it's more likely that the zero button on your keyboard is faulty, not the program.
