It goes up for a second or two then comes back down, it slows my laptop down and i cannot see what is doing it.
it is an IBM thinkpad r50e any ideas? I am stumped.

which laptop is better overall means lookwise,performancewise HCL or Acer or LG laptop? When I'm nt asking of any other company then why you are giving answers like toshiba,dell,sony?recommend only :LG or HCL or Acer.my budget is Rs 32,000.

I bought a second hand Advent laptop, the recovery cd was not supplied but it says in the online manual to press f10 at boot up to access the recovery partition, but i'm doing this and its not happening.

The partition hasn't been deleted as when I check HDD capacity it says 37gb its supposed to be 40gb so I assuming the other 3gb is the hidden partition but how do I access it?

My HP deskjet 610C is not printing. When I give the print command from Word or any other program, it first appears in that thing that comes when you click the printer but then it says deleting and it never prints. I'm using the printer on my hp laptop on windows xp.

Hi all
I own a HP Pavilion Laptop model dv5120eu.
Thing is i had faults on hard drive so bought new one 100gb.
I have installed Vista home premium 64 bit onto the sytem as it had xp home edition but ive upgrade now to vista.
Everything is working fine but i have no sound.

checked in device manager and says it needs the drivers. thing is it doesnt say what manafactuer I need to use to get the drivers. All i have to go on is the model number of my laptop dv5120eu . Anyone have any idea where i can get the drivers or check to see who manafactuerd the sound card etc?
I've checked HP site but doesnt say.

2-how are the brands- systemax,gateway,asus,everex,lenovo,fujitsu.has anyone here ever used a laptop with that brand here.describe it.

3- was that brand dependable, durable and affordable.

Ok, this might sound stupid, but I've been a PC user all my life. I need a notebook for school and I was wondering, if I bought a Macbook, and since it wouldn't have Microsoft Office, how would I create presentations like with something similar to powerpoint, and then play them on the school's computer? And then also, if I created a document like similar to word, how would I be able to transfer it to the school's computer to print it if I had to? Would they be compatible?

Can I create documents and presentations on a Mac notebook and then plug my flash drive into a pc and have it work?

Ive heard it several ways about preserving battery life, some say drain it completely, recharge full, and repeat, some say never keep it too low or too high when it reaches 40% charge it to about 90 and stop. So my question is, i have a lithium-ion battery for my laptop, what is the CORRECT thing to do with it to preserve its life? Real answers please no guesses i can make things up on my own too.

1) I use my computer every day. It is better when I'm done for the day to have it sleep, hibernate, or shut down, and why?

2) Is it better to use it until the battery needs charging, then do so, or just keep it plugged in?

The screen on my laptop went black and would not work. The only way I could get it to work was by plugging it in to an external screen. I took it in to have an estimate done. The place says they will diagnose the problem for free, and fix it, if what they do doesnt fix it, then you dont have to pay.
They called us and said the problem was a piece on the motherboard that needed to be replaced. They call us the next day said when they did that it enabled the screen to come on, but only for a minute before it would shut off again. Said it looks like liquid got into the motherboard and fried a switch there that turns the screen on and the only way to fix that is to buy a new motherboard. They said its not worth the money and want us to trade it in for one of their laptops. They said motherboard would cost $500 and then there would be $90 installation fee.
My laptop is not even 3 years old, its a HP Pavilion.
Is this a scam? Do they just want my laptop?

I am 16 and I am looking for a laptop, price is not an issue. I will probably use it mostly for surfing the web, school work, and listening to iTunes of course! Also I would want to download the Sims 2, so I need a laptop that the Sims wouldn't make it slow down or anything. And I will probably download microsoft office [word, excel, powerpoint] and photoshop. So does anyone have suggestions?

I am planning on getting a white MacBook at the end of summer but I'm wondering if I should wait until the newer version comes out. I know the new iMacs just came out but does that mean that they will make new MacBooks soon too or that they will wait longer since they just came out with a new computer?

I bought the MacBook Pro because Apple told me it would be better than a PC. They were completely full of sh!t and just fed me whatever bull they wanted to make a sale. The MacBook can't do ANYTHING. It works with virtually NO games. My neighbor bought himself a new HP laptop (same thickness as MacBook Pro) and he can do everything and MORE than my pile of hud can -- all at a fraction of the cost of what I paid!!! Seriously, why does Apple insist on screwing its customers?
