It goes up for a second or two then comes back down, it slows my laptop down and i cannot see what is doing it.
it is an IBM thinkpad r50e any ideas? I am stumped.

i run antispyware and virus scans everyweek, and I update them daily and they are set to run automatic scans everyday........

Look at your task manager and see what program is using all of the CPUs time. If you are running a lot of programs that could be the culprit. Also, big applications like photoshop and graphically intense games can eat up the CPUs time. I would check the task manager and look at which programs are doing this.

I just had this problem. You are running too many programs at one time. Even all the stuff on your toolbar counts. I took all the extras off my toolbar and have not had the problem again. Also there is a number to call for tech support on www.microsoft.com if this doesn't help. Windows xp is the main one having this trouble.

Keep your anti-spyware solution up to date, and run a full scan every few days. I recommend the free SpyBot Search & Destroy that you can get from http://www.download.com

My cpu does that too--they all do, they use cpu power as they need it--dont worry its normal.

mine does it too but i think it depends on how many programs you're running.. im not too sure.
